Background[edit]
Jason Calder grew up in a military family. His father was in the Air Force and his mother was in intelligence. He never really felt like he measured up to their standards, but--aside from a little rebelliousness in his youth--he tried, anyway.
He joined the Police to try to live up to that sense of duty instilled in him, though his parents always felt like he wasn't "living up to his potential". As if that weren't enough, he quit the force after a few years, anyway, chafing under the politics and culture, to strike out on his own.
He became a Private Investigator, after that. It was mostly cheating spouses, missing persons, and a few corporate contract jobs--it didn't pay well, but at least he could make his own hours.
When his powers manifested, everything changed. The government quickly approached him and offered him a job in intelligence. He ended up working for his mother as a spy--finally, the chance to prove himself.
Unfortunately, it was the police force all over again. He felt like "duty" was just another word for "be a useful tool", and he eventually quit.
