Monkey Studies Under Patriarch Subodhi

    •     Travels in search of a teacher to learn to be immortal

    •     Finds Master at the Mountain of the Mind, living in the Cave of the Slanting Moon and Three Stars

    •     Master offers to teach Monkey many things, but by turning them all down he earns the right to learn what he wants

Monkey Returns Home

    •     Having learned from Patriarch Subodhi, Monkey returns home to his people

    •     People have been driven into Water Curtain Cave by the Monstrous King of Havoc

    •     Monkey travels north and kills the Monstrous King

    •     King leaves it’s scimitar behind

The Four Dragon Kings

    •     Monkey travels to the court of Ao-kuang, Dragon King of the Eastern Oceans and demands a weapon.  Gains the Compliant Golden-Hooped Rod.

    •     Demands proper clothes, 

         o     Ao-ch’in, Dragon King of the Southern Ocean: cap of erect phoenix plumes, made of red gold

         o     Ao-Shun, Dragon King of the Northern Ocean: cloud treading shoes the color of lotus root

         o     Ao-Jun, Dragon King of the Western Ocean: cuirass of chainmail made of yellow gold

The Seven Kings Fraternal Order

    •     Monkey joins a fraternal order and swears friendship and alliance with the other members and he means it.  The other members are:

         o     Bull Monster King

         o     Dragon Monster King

         o     Garuda Monster King

         o     Long-haired Lion King

         o     Female Monkey King

         o     Giant Ape King

The Descent to Hell

    •     Yama, King of Dath, sent to take Monkey to Hell for his crimes

    •     Meets 10 Kings of the Underworld

    •     Erases names of himself and his subjects from the Register of Births and Deaths

Summons to Heaven

    •     Long-life spirit of Venus suggests Monkey be granted a title rather than punished

    •     Monkey is made Pi-ma-wa, in charge of the horses in the Imperial stables, this is one of the lowest ranks in Heaven

    •     Monkey, upon discovering his lack of rank, abandons Heaven and returns to his cave without leave

    •     Monkey declares himself Great Sage, Equal to Heaven

    •     The Water Curtain Cave is placed under siege by the armies of Heaven but none can subdue Monkey

    •     Long-life spirit of Venus suggests that Monkey be granted the title he wishes, a rank without responsibility or pension

    •     Monkey returns to Heaven

Great Sage, Equal to Heaven

    •     Monkey makes friends and alliances in Heaven, but leads an indolent life

    •     Is eventually placed in charge of the Garden of Immortal Peaches to give him something to do

    •     Soon he begins to steal peaches

    •     Finding himself left out of a great feast, he breaks in, steals elixir of immortality and escapes

    •     Heaven, roused to anger, sends armies after him.  Monkey stands against them all

    •     Monkey is eventually captured by Lao Tzu

3 You are descended by blood or martial tradition from the Handsome Monkey King. (Note: This is also held by the Sun family, traditional enemies of the Golden Vampire Kings/Golden Vein Eaters)

0/5 If descended from the Handsome Monkey King, you may take the Hated Foe disadvantage using one of Old Monkey’s enemies, possibly the heirs to the Monstrous King of Havoc, the 10 Kings of the Underworld, the Four Dragon Kings, or even the armies of Heaven. The Sun family has this with the Golden Vampire Kings/Golden Vein Eaters.

3 Find the Flower-Fruit Mountain and learn it’s secret, that the mountain is timeless and nothing ages there.

5 Find the Water Curtain Cave and discover Monkey’s treasure trove (Wealth 5, if you take it)

2/5 Discover The Mountain of The Mind and the Cave of The Slanting Moon and Three Stars and the school of Patriarch Subodhi. If you can convince the master to accept you, you may learn many things: Secret Arts, martial arts secrets, even the secrets of immortality. (2 if found, 5 if Mentor 5)

5 /per Find one or more of the treasures of the Dragon Kings (His weapon is much more)

3 If descended from the Handsome Monkey King, renew the ties of friendship with the other heirs to the Seven Kings Fraternal Order (Friends 3 or Affiliation 3, take twice for both?)

5 The Jade Emperor has never removed Monkey’s titles or duties. If one was descended from Monkey, he could make a claim on either of those titles, either as pi-ma-we (giving the duty of caring for the horses in the stables) or as Great Sage, Equal to Heaven (granting the Sage’s mansions and possibly the duty to guard the Garden of Immortal Peaches). Note that this isn’t the most popular of lineages in Heaven and also that you must arrange your own transportation the Heaven. Also, getting leave from these duties might be difficult.

3 Learn the secret of Monkey’s prison, that he’s imprisoned under Flower-Fruit Mountain and that the four treasures of the Dragon Kings are the keys to this prison. If all four are collected, they may be used to release Monkey before the end of his sentence, gaining you the enmity of Heaven and the gratitude of Monkey. Or not.
