Setting Brief[edit]

Superheroes have always existed in some for or another, either as the figures that inspired ancient myths and medieval folklore or as gentlemen adventurers of an extraordinary nature. But they didn't come into existence in their current from as costumed crime-fighters until the 1920s and 1930s, when experimentation with new forms of science and renewed interest in ancient magics on both sides of the brewing conflict brought into existence a new generation of superpowered individuals - with the advent of the print media encouraging more flamboyant costumes and personalities.

The outbreak of WW2 saw both the allies and the axis scramble to gather as many metahumans as they could and organise them into special operations units that could turn the tide of war. The most famous of these forces on the Allied side were the Warriors of Liberty, an elite squad led by the Eagle and including other famous superheroes of the time such as Lady Mars, Clockwork Man and the Spectress.

After the war was over the Warriors remained operational but became an independent entity, albeit one that was still funded by various governments through the Metahuman Grant. Over time it has evolved into a scientific and intelligence-gathering powerhouse that recruits heroes, trains them and helps them master their powers as well as keeping an eye on superpowered threats and countering them when they rear their heads.

In the 1980s the Warriors faced their greatest challenge to date in the form of the Metacrisis - a global conflict where several of the world's most powerful supervillains united together in an attempt to establish themselves as the new rulers of the world. The crisis had many seismic effects on the world, including the destruction of the world's nuclear arsenals, the fall of the USSR and the near-destruction of many cities, including New York where the Warrior's main HQ was located. After it was over the Warrior's greatest minds helped rebuilt the city as Neotropolis, the city of tomorrow and a beacon of scientific progress powered entirely by clean energy.

The Warriors now have dozens of members, but the Core Five who lead them and are it's most accomplished heroes are:

- Rick Ryans a.k.a Mister Marvellous, a polymath genius who gained the power to change the shape and elemental composition of his body following an experiment gone wrong; - Walter Jones a.k.a Olympian, a computer programmer who discovered he was chosen by the ancient Greek Gods to receive their divine power; when he calls upon them he transforms into a warrior armoured in adamantium wielding a spear made of lightning; - Janet Evans a.k.a Galactica, an astronaut who recived powers of flight, energy blasts, super-strength and super-durability after an encounter with a comet charged with cosmic energy; - Clockwork Man II, a highly intelligent android wizard that was designed by the original Clockwork Man; - Catherine Crane a.k.a Steelheart, a cyborg inventor with an artificial heart who wears a suit of powered armour into battle.

In recent years the Warriors have suffered a number of losses due to rising supervillain attacks; due to this, it was decided by the Core Five to launch the Young Warriors program, an attempt to find the next generation of young metahumans who could be trained as an effective superhero team.
