== Background == Salvatore Warrith was born among a community of stowaways and crew escapees living in an abandoned deck of a voidship. Life in the Black Deck was hard and full of dangers such as leaks of radiation or toxic matter, and creatures lurking in the darkness. The life left its scars and Sal learned to harden his mind to fear. But what brought that part of his life to an end and nearly ended it altogether was not the dangers of the Black Deck but a raid by the ship ratings, during which he was shot in the head. And his latent psychic abilities surfaced as a telepathic scream. Because of that, he was not finished off but patched up and transfered to a Black Ship where it was determined that his psychic potential should not be allowed to go to waste, and his head injury was fixed by replacing his skull with a transparent plasteel plate and the damaged part of his brain with a cogitator. With the brain surgery, psychic testing and experimentation, and the interrogations, Salvatore's time on the Black Ship nearly broke him and left him with such a hatred of being restrained that even a threat of such may cause him to react violently. But ultimately he not only survived but became quite skilled in surviving hardships. Ultimately he was among the few chosen to undergo the ritual of Sould Binding on Terra and become an Astropath. But unlike the rest of those who survived the ritual with him, Salvatore never had any interest in serving in an Astropathic facility or on the staff of some notable. Perhaps it was the machine whispers in his brain, the memories of childhood on a Black Deck, or something else altogether, but Sal felt the pull to go beyond the borders of the Imperium. To explore and seek his fortune. On board a Rogue Trader vessel. Sal neither looks nor acts like some people would expect for an Astropath. Staves and robes are not for him. He dresses in body armor and naval uniform, with a ceremonial officer's sword and laspistol on his hips. One could almost mistake him for a junior officer if not for insignia on his collar identifying him as a psyker, and the insignia of Adeptus Astra Telepathica on his shoulders further identifying him as an Astropath. That, and his physical appearance. Salvatore is pale and thin even for a void born, although his thinness is more of wiry toughness than frailty. And above his blind, glazed eyes a part of his skull is missing and replaced with transparent plasteel. You can actually see his brain. And electrodes and implants embedded into it. Occasionally, power crackles between the implants, sometimes accompanied by a slight twitch of his body. Whether it is electricity or psychic power is anyone's guess. And while many psykers are aware of the feelings of apprehension they often cause in others and become aloof, withdrawn and sometimes dour, Sal does not. He is aware of how others may feel about him, but he does not care. Sal is cheerful, inquisitive, outgoing and talkative, whether people want his company or not.
