== Background ==
Vaz is a drow, which automatically makes him a second-class citizen in Emperor Reagan's America. For most Underdarkers (Vaz prefers "Subterranean American") life is harsh and frequently short existence, characterized by drugs, gang warfare, and roaming monsters. Some join the military for a chance to escape, some vie for athletic scholarships, but Vaz chose XCrawl. He isn't the first drow to compete, but he's one of the first to make it as far as he has, and while the networks still treat him as something of a novelty his slow, steady, and deadly progression through the ranks has begun to garner him a real fan following. Witty and charismatic in front of the cameras, Vaz never passes up the opportunity to make himself heard, whether passionately advocating for subterranean rights or disavowing those persistent (and baseless) rumors of unspeakable pacts with eldritch horrors from below.
