Long, long ago, a highly advanced civilisation built a series of super-powered androids. Known as the Brainiac series, they were sent out into the universe at large to use their abilities for the good of its people. One such android is Brainiac 8, who goes by the name of Indigo. Aged over the course of her long existence, she looks like an old woman - albeit one with unusually coloured skin and hair - but her power is immense. She is able to manipulate energy in a vast variety of ways, can fly and produce force fields, is far stronger than most beings and capable of self-repair through nanites.

In her travels across space, Indigo once visited Earth, where she met the adventurer Ben Parker. The two became good friends, and she would often visit his family when near Earth. She had not been present at his funeral, but shortly after his death, she arrived with a warning for his nephew Peter, for the ring that he had inherited was more powerful and dangerous than it seemed…
