== Backstory == Koumori Chise has lived a fairly unpleasant life from the start; her mother died in childbirth due to a congenital blood sickness causing a hemorrhage. Her father raised her as best he could, but it soon became clear that his daughter had inherited her mother's sickly constitution. At the age of 8 she was hospitalized full-time. At 12 her father was killed in a car accident; he'd been drinking heavily, and Chise blames herself for the pain that drove him to the bottle. After that, she saw occasional visits from the relatives that were her nominal guardians, but she was essentially abandoned to the care of the doctors and nurses; no one wanted to become attached to a girl whose death was all but assured. She'd nearly given herself over to despair and resignation when the contract was offered to her. Desperate for any way out of the hospital and any chance at avoiding the omnipresent icy hand of death, she jumped at the chance. Thanks to her magic, she'd soon recovered enough to be released; eschewing the relatives who'd abandoned her, she instead took residence in the abandoned church her father had once taken her to to pray for her survival before it had closed due to lack of parishioners. Now, Chise is an avid hunter of youma; her desperation in the face of imminent death leads her to be almost suicidally brave as she singlemindedly seeks enough Oblivion Seeds to get her wish: immortality, and with it eternal release from her constant fear of death. Her years of internment have left her closed off to others, and she has scarcely any ability to understand how to relate to them anymore (not to mention her own fears that anyone she gets close to will be hurt like her father was when her nearly-inevitable fate comes to pass).
