Chise is a player character in Magica Mima Umbra Puella, played by ShadowWhispers

KOUMORI Chise (蝙蝠 血施)[edit]

What kind of girl? Chise is a sickly girl; she's 14 but looks younger due to long illness stunting her growth. Slender to the point of frailness, she has pale skin and dark hair, and eyes which are surprisingly pale blue. Her pendant, which she wears openly, is a golden cross like the one worn by Bela Lugosi in the Universal Dracula films, with a deep crimson stone in its center.

What convinced her to make a contract? Chise's looks are not deceiving; she's dying from a blood born illness. Given the choice between a slow death from within or the magical power to keep herself alive, she took the one that terrified her the least.

What is her wish? Immortality. Nothing scares her more than her own impending death at the hands of her illness.

Magical Element: Blood. All of Chise's powers use either her own blood or the blood of her target. One thing her magic never is is clean.
Magical Power: Vampire Shapechange. Chise can change her form into one or a swarm of shadowy bats.

Magical Effects:
Element: Regeneration. This magic is actually a big part of why she's still able to be mobile in spite of her advanced illness.
Power: Swift Attack. The vampiric nature of her power gives her shockingly quick reflexes.
Finishing Moves:

  • Bloody Rondo (Debilitating Attack). Chise explodes into a cloud of blood and forces herself through the target, infecting it with a portion of her own weakness.
  • Queen of the Night (Barrage Attack). Chise conjures bats from blood and shadow to attack the targets.

Magical Weapon: Blood Talons. When transformed, Chise has long claws that cover her hands, made from her own blood.
Costume: Goth-loli in red with black lace accents, a tiny top-hat, a tiny black-with-red lining shoulder-shawl with a high collar, and a pair of bat-wing accents.

Normal Attributes:
Aggro 7, Sharp 6, Cool 6, Social 5

Magical Attributes:
Fury 11, Magic 8, Heart 3

Crisis: Her last fight left behind a lot of blood; it's only a matter of time before the police start to wonder why the same person's blood keeps turning up in all these places . . .

XP
Earned: 51
Spent: 50 (Rank 1: 30 [+1 Fury, Barrage Attack, +1 Social, +1 Magic, +1 Cool, +4 Resolve], Rank 2: 15 [+1 Fury, +1 Magic, +1 Social, Double Attack])

Backstory[edit]

Koumori Chise has lived a fairly unpleasant life from the start; her mother died in childbirth due to a congenital blood sickness causing a hemorrhage. Her father raised her as best he could, but it soon became clear that his daughter had inherited her mother's sickly constitution. At the age of 8 she was hospitalized full-time. At 12 her father was killed in a car accident; he'd been drinking heavily, and Chise blames herself for the pain that drove him to the bottle. After that, she saw occasional visits from the relatives that were her nominal guardians, but she was essentially abandoned to the care of the doctors and nurses; no one wanted to become attached to a girl whose death was all but assured.

She'd nearly given herself over to despair and resignation when the contract was offered to her. Desperate for any way out of the hospital and any chance at avoiding the omnipresent icy hand of death, she jumped at the chance. Thanks to her magic, she'd soon recovered enough to be released; eschewing the relatives who'd abandoned her, she instead took residence in the abandoned church her father had once taken her to to pray for her survival before it had closed due to lack of parishioners.

Now, Chise is an avid hunter of youma; her desperation in the face of imminent death leads her to be almost suicidally brave as she singlemindedly seeks enough Oblivion Seeds to get her wish: immortality, and with it eternal release from her constant fear of death. Her years of internment have left her closed off to others, and she has scarcely any ability to understand how to relate to them anymore (not to mention her own fears that anyone she gets close to will be hurt like her father was when her nearly-inevitable fate comes to pass).

Relationships[edit]

Hoshiko: Fury, 0/3 Stress, 1 charge
Chise's run into Hoshiko flying about when she's on patrol for Youma to hunt a few times. Because she is desperate to have her wish granted, she's gone out of her way to try to chase the other girl off every time she spots her; more competition on her turf means less Oblivion Seeds for her!

ROUKA Shingo: Fury, 0/3 Stress
Shingo is Chise's attending physician. He's by no means a bad doctor, but he's long since accepted that she can't be saved, and so in many ways he has become a sort of personification of her illness to Chise. As such, she considers him someone who has to be overcome or beaten rather than someone who's trying to help her.

HATAKE Ran: Magic, 0/3 Stress, 1 charge
Ran is the old groundskeeper who cares for the church Chise lives in. After Chise destroyed a Youma that had been nesting there, the old woman began to treat her as a sort of "guardian angel;" her eyesight is too poor to really see what Chise's magical girl outfit resembles. Chise largely avoids her for this reason; she's not really sure what to do about this fawning. But Ran keeps the church and its grounds in good repair, while Chise keeps the Youma away.

Chizuru: Fury, 0/3 Stress, 1 charge
Chise has agreed to hunt youma that Chizuru finds, if they're worth killing.

Hotaru: Heart, 1/3 Stress, 0 charge
Hotaru is the closes thing that Chise has to a friend at school. She's not sure what to make of the other girl's strange interest in her, and even occasionally tries to discourage her, but has mostly given up on it.

Suzume: Heart, 0/3 Stress, 0 charge
Suzume is ill with the same disease as Chise. Chise's efforts to ease her pain have formed a bond between the two.

Akasuki/Pink-chan: Heart, 0/3 Stress, 0 charge
Chise isn't entirely sure how to react to Akasuki's feelings, but she empathizes with her previous plight and wants to protect her newfound happiness.
