VIGILANTE STRIKES AGAIN
February 3, 2005
WASHINGTON DC | POTOMAC PARK -- The nation's capital, known for it's high crime rate, now has it's own protector! For the second time in less than a week the costumed man that locals are now calling the "Reaper" has stuck another blow for vigilante justice; a blow that has landed one in intensive care and another in the grave. Police have yet to collect anything more than the most basic descriptions from witnesses, almost as if the locals are giving this "Reaper" protection. Washington DC resident Cathy Rigby, seen here at Haines Point, says "We owe our lives to the Reaper. He's not a vigilante - he's a hero!" Mrs. Rigby and husband Landis were attacked by two known criminals in upper Potomac Park just in sight of the Jefferson Memorial.
Chief of Police, Charles H. Ramsey remind citizens that "This is a serious matter. Regardless of the situation with these "Godlike", this is real life, not a comic book. The citizen's of the Potomac Park area cannot allow this brutality to continue. It is only a matter of time before this "justice" turns into something they will be less happy with. Two men are dead, they may have been criminals but everyone deserves due process. What can you do to get involved? The answer is simple: organize your community to take action, but do not seek illegal methods. Attend your Police Service Area's monthly community meetings and bring a neighbor. Offer your resources to the community groups in your area. Turn stumbling blocks into stepping stones. Sometimes the first step can be as simple as picking up a broom to clean the streets and sidewalks in front of your home. One person with a broom can set an example for the whole neighborhood. Bloodying the streets only adds to the problem. Our policing strategy is about working with community to prevent crime; not just to catch the criminals after the fact."
-- The Washington Post
Vigilante Strikes Again - FULL STORY - -----
