During their labors Jædr walks across the top of a massive steel-plated building, making sure the fixtures are secure and the bolts are tight.  It is in the Fallport dockyards, and the noon sun is startlingly hot.  He fans himself by lifting his beard a few times to get air underneath, where the paler color of his skin can be seen.  There is a human down below asking the orcs when the stone will be added.

Within very tight quarters, Jædr is turning a wrench, cussing at another dwarf to pull his weight.  The other says, "Why try so hard to make sure this bilge is water-tight if it's just going to be used by orcs?  Let them sink, I say!"
<br>Jædr replies, "As the general says, you never know whose brother or mother will be retained as repairmen.  We build it as if it were our own until told otherwise."
