== Background == Maxen has vague ideas of leaving the city and joining a Dalish warband, but he’s a city boy through and through and couldn’t survive in the wild on his own. He’d also get heated if the Dalish looked down at him at all for his lack of survival skills. He's supposedly named after an ancient Dalish hero, but (unbeknownst to him) Maxen is actually a Fereldenization of the name Macsyn. This contradiction is oddly fitting. Even though the young elf wouldn’t admit it, Maxen is as much Ferelden as he is Elf. It’s hard for City Elves to get honest work, so it should come as no surprise that he turned to a life of crime. But even on the streets, things are not easy for Elves. He’s been working as an associate for a local thieves’ guild, the Skivers, for a while now. He’s trying to earn enough money to pay his dues, but it’s hard to make money when you are used for the worst jobs and paid coppers on the silver actual guild members earn. Despite his drive to overcome the bias against elves in Denerem, Maxen still can’t stand by and ignore what is happening to other City Elves. More than a few abusive guards, greedy merchants and handsy sailors have gone missing after taking advantage of an elf. Maxen is associated with the Skivers Thieves’ Guild. They are a smaller guild that works primarily in the southeastern corner of Denerim. His closest connection is a human pickpocket named Leigh. She brings Maxen in when she plans bigger jobs. Maxen has run afoul of the Crimson Oars. He won (by cheating of course) his leather duster off one of their leaders (Lieutenant Benecroft) and they have been after him ever since. Although his mother passed away to a plague/disease, he still has close ties to his Uncle Frayne in the Alienage and has a number of cousins there.
