A being of great power, Thanos was obsessed with the concept of death, essentially to the point of falling in love with an abstract idea. To spread death across the universe, he created 9 Power Rings, each containing the power of several stars compressed into a single point. Feigning benevolence, he gave these rings to the leaders of great civilisations across space, only for the rings’ power to corrupt them into his undead servants. He waged a war of death against all the universe’s lifeforms, and eventually he came upon the ultimate power he needed - the Anti-Life Equation. As even his mind was unable to fully comprehend it, he sealed much of his power together with half of the Equation into a green ring of his own. However, the day came when Thanos was slain in battle, and his hand with the ring severed from his arm. Since then he has been little more than a malevolent will, commanding his servants in search of the Ring which would allow him to return and use the Anti-Life Equation to kill the universe.
