Michelle Hanrahan, Apprentice of Wayne R. Morrison A Dresden Files Roleplaying Game CHARACTER WORKSHEET '''Character Name:''' Michelle Rosemary Agnes Hanrahan '''Player''': Squidheadjax '''Template''': Wizard '''Musts''': Thaumaturgy, Evocation, Sight, Wizard Constitution, Soulgaze '''High Concept''': Witch from the New Milennium ''Invoke'': To scandalize ‘old-fashioned’ types without a second thought, to ‘fit in’ in worldly social settings where an older, crustier wizard would stick out, to navigate modern social media concepts (from a distance), and to generally do (apprentice) wizardy things and support Wayne ''Compel'': To disregard good advice from tradition, to make incorrect assumptions about ancient entities based on modern values, and to scandalize ‘old-fashioned’ types without a second thought '''Trouble Aspect''': Magical Heroine Complex ''Compel'': to leap to the aid of those who seem to be in need (regardless of the reality), to grasp at straws to ‘find the good’ in various villains, to avoid realizing her limits ''Invoke'': In the rare cases when there’s actually good to bring out in a defeated or overwhelming foe, to avoid realizing her limits [['''PHASES''']] '''Background''': The middle child of a large family, Michelle found her voice in becoming ‘the techie’ rather than some of the more classical forms of acting out. She loved the imaginitive worlds out in the emerging World Wide Web and in computer games, and took advantage of brand new online libraries to read voraciously. When tech around her started breaking down, she was devastated, but she remembered that one of her favorite authors had a similar problem. Four demo computers at a local Best Buy gave their lives so she could track down his literary agent (and got her banned from all the Best Buys in Chester County for life). '''Phase Aspect''': Unrequited Technophile ''Invoke'': To understand modern and advancing technology (and how to break it), to push the envelope of technology she can safely work with, to work on simpler tech (like the Winnebago) ''Compel'': To make her normal Murphyonic field extra-inconvenient; to unintentionally jinx something that would normally be safe from her (“I don’t know how but I think I broke the cellphone I was calling…”) '''Rising Conflict: '''And so she managed to convince his agent to pass a letter to Mr. Morrison,''' in which he recognized the emergence of a magical talent - and realized that he’d probably end up getting dragged into apprenticing her anyway, if she didn’t go bad from self-teaching before that. So he eventually agreed to meet with her. Increasing frictions at school caused her parents to send her to a Catholic school for high school, thinking it might also help her deal with the magical ‘fantasies’ she was having around her bad luck with technology. And they weren’t entirely confident that her repeated meetings with Wayne were a good idea, even though the opportunity to get tutored by such a figure is a big deal. Out of a desire to stay connected to machines, she enrolled in the county vo-tech program as well (Brandywine Area Technical School, or BATS), and to her relief found more solid mechanics to be resistant to her Murphyonic Field (a term she derived independently, of course). She did well at Shanahan and BATS but didn’t participate in much besides the core academics. Her circle of friends was mostly people on the fringes of school society, even though she was pretty thoroughly straitedge herself - she had an outsider’s perspective for a whole different reason. '''Phase Aspect''': Proper Catholic Schoolwitch '''Invoke''': to have a little faith, to deal calmly with authority, to disarmingly conform to expectations, to fit magical actions into mundane expectations '''Compel''': to concede to authority when she should push her point, to get an incorrectly positive impression of a religious figure, to fail at social interaction with people outside her white-middleclass-Christian mileu, to have leftover teenage angst Story: Attack of the Jersey Devil Guest Starring: ? And then a Peryton tried to eat her. Shortly after her graduation to full wizard, the incident involved her whole family actually seeing Michelle face off against the creature to protect them - alone, without her mysteriously-disappeared teacher. Though she was inexperienced, and didn't have much specific knowledge of the creature, her power and burning desire to protect her family allowed her to hold out until --------------. When she had taken her final tests, she had asked Wayne who the dour people in grey cloaks were - and Wayne explained that the Wardens were police most of the time, but sometimes had to stand against other creatures. From her fight against the Peryton forward, That became her goal. Even once the war started. Phase Aspect: Aspire to the Grey Cloak Invoke: To stay firm in following the Laws of Magic (in contrast to her tendency to constantly push her boundaries otherwise), to focus her heroic leanings in a useful direction, to put herself in harm’s way for the good of others Compel: To exhibit a human-centric attitude toward the supernatural world, to be overly suspicious toward non-Wizard practitioners, to rush to judgement of someone '''Guest Star''': - need to figure this one out '''Bucket Item''': Visit all the national museums in DC and the LIbrary of Congress '''Phase Aspect''': Hungry to Learn ''Invoke'': Enhance rolls made to acquire knowledge or find particular resources, to perservere in the face of obstacles when seeking information. ''Compel'': To make poor decisions based on curiosity, to ignore the genuine perils of forbidden knowledge Other phase aspects: SKILLS '''Superb +5 '''Conviction '''Great +4 '''Discipline '''Good +3 '''Lore, Craftsmanship, Investigation '''Fair +2 '''Rapport, Unarmed, Scholarship, Deceit, Athletics '''Average +1 '''Endurance, Survival, Weapon, Stealth, Presence, Driving, Alertness Languages: Stunts and Powers -3 Evocation -3 Thaumaturgy -1 The Sight 0 Soulgaze 0 Wizard Constitution -1 Refinement 10 Base =================== 2 Refresh Magic Evocation Elements: Spirit, Earth, Water Evocation Specialties Water Control +1 Evocation Foci Minutely-inscribed River-pebble Rosary (Water Block +1, Earth Attack +1) - Usually worn as a bracelet Driftwood wand (Water maneuver +1, Spirit Block +1) - carved out of driftwood from Key West (her last family vacation before air travel became a Bad Idea) Evocation Rotes "Doronuma" ("Quagmire") - Water Maneuver, requires wand, 6 shifts (2 spent on being persistent for 2 exchanges) - Weakens all the surfaces in an area like an eggshell half-dissolved in vinegar, making movement difficult. Usually, her shoulder-length red hair frames her round face, though she'll often have all but the front few locks pulled back in a ponytail, particularly when working. She can usually be found in casual sweaters and knee-length skirts, or overalls when she's trying to coax something mechanical back to life. While she'll quickly deny it, she does keep a classical witch's pointy hat on hand (and, of course, a proper black robe) for when something particularly magical is afoot and she needs to get in the right mindset.
