'''Aspect Descriptions''' '''High Concept'''
''Daring Captain of the Free Army'' *Compels: duty to her missions and her underlings/peers; enemies & rivals she has made through the years; "old war wound" *Invokes: commanding respect; expertise with combat; using her position and reputation '''Trouble'''
''Victory at All Costs''
Vlenn has great passion. Once she is committeed, she cannot turn away, but drives ever harder toward her goal. People around her know that they will get driven just as hard, and she often doubles down when she ought to withdraw or compromise. *Compels: when she takes the bait that she ought to ignore; when she takes foolish risks to try to snatch victory from defeat; when her people push back because she's pushed too hard *Invoke: for that last push to win; to inspire with her passion; to intimidate ''Barterby is My Found Family''
Vlenn and Barterby met in a tense trade negotiation years ago. They entered the army together and have been closer than sisters ever since. If people find a human and a gnoll being so close strange, they learn not to comment on it very quickly. Barterby acts as Vlenn's quartermaster, confidant, and party partner. *Compels: Barterby (or the friendship) creates trouble; Barterby needs something; Barterby's "creative" ways of acquiring what they need causes blowback *Invoke: Barterby provides an assist with negotiations; Vlenn is inspired by Barterby to think outside the box; Barterby helps get something they desperately need ''Daughter of the Shadow-Sellers''
*Compels: the Shadow-Sellers demand some favor from Vlenn; she encounters someone from her past who wants something; she can't resist a chance to acquire something special *Invoke: to know about a wide range of places and people; to recognize what someone really wants; to bluff or recognize bluffing ''The Bag of Tricks''
Vlenn has collected a variety of exotic goods that she carries with her. *Compels: If the bag itself is endangered; if something in it attracts undesired attention; if someone comes looking to get something she has *Invoke: to have just the right item; to sweeten a pot with a tempting trade good; to impress people '''History''' Vlenn was raised among the Shadow-Sellers, a scattered clan who trade in hard-to-get and black-market goods: weapons, magical items, alchemicals and drugs, etc. When the wars started, she took her knowledge of weapons and enlisted. To her surprise, she thrived there, and by the end of the war she was leading a squad as Sergeant. When people dispersed for the peace, Vlenn stayed and helped the effort to bring the fighters of the Free Cities together into the Free Army--a group dedicated to protecting the Cities from any external threats. Once again, her passion and leadership were recognized, and over the years she grew into a recognized leader.
