The State of Maryland charged [[Thomas Reagan]] with 2,000 counts of malicious destriction of private property[http://198.187.128.12/maryland/lpext.dll/Infobase/153ca/16439/16541/16542?f=templates&fn=document-frame.htm&2.0#JD_cr6-301, *], 2,000 counts of motor vehicle theft[http://198.187.128.12/maryland/lpext.dll/Infobase/153ca/16667/16695/16739?f=templates&fn=document-frame.htm&2.0#JD_cr7-105, *] and 500 counts of injury to public property[http://198.187.128.12/maryland/lpext.dll/Infobase/153ca/16d8f/17014/1702b?f=templates&fn=document-frame.htm&2.0#JD_cr9-702, *]. * A "count" is an individual act or instance. Normally, in Maryland State Law, multiple counts are merged together on the docket and the defense is only charged with a single count of each crime; the judge accounts for multiple acts with the severity of the punishment, should the defendant be found guilty. However, Maryland has no code to account for "mass" crimes, along the scale or Reagan's, so listing them individually this way allows for a greater punishment. ** If found guilty of all counts of all three crimes, Reagan will face no fewer than 4,500 years in jail and no more than 21,000. He will be elligible for parole in 1/4 the time he's sentenced for[http://198.187.128.12/maryland/lpext.dll/Infobase/10d46/1180e/118f6/118f7?f=templates&fn=document-frame.htm&2.0#JD_cor7-301, *]. ** Reagan could also (or instead) be forced to pay the State up to $20 million. ** Found guilty or not, Reagan can still face Civil suits brought against him by any person whose car was destroyed. He wouldn't face jail time in a civil suit, but if he lost he would have to pay monies equal to the value of the plaintiff's car, plus court fees. See below for how much money that might be. ---- Reagan caused every car and truck within 9 miles of the town of [http://www.oaklandmd.com/home.asp Oakland, MD] to disintegrate ([http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oakland%2C_Maryland, wikipedia]). The town of Oakland, MD has a total area of 2.1 mi² land and 0.47% is water. According to a study by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments. Mongomery county has a total area of 388 mi² land and 1 mi² of it is water. There were 1,302 cars per square mile in [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montgomery_County%2C_Virginia Montgomery County, Virginia] and 1,131 in [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prince_George_County%2C_Virginia Prince George County, Virginia]. Prince George county has a total area of 266 mi² land and 16 mi² of it is water. * 9 mile radius = 81 * 3.14 miles =~= 250 square miles. Assuming is an average of 1216.5 cars per square mile (the average of Montgomery and Prince George cars per square mile) the damage estimate totals 2554.65 cars within Oakland, MD city limits. Assume a low rate of 1/4 the total cars per square mile at 304.13 cars * the remaining 6.9 rural miles equalling 2098.5 cars. $17k each mean (some new cars, some beaters..) thats $79,103.55. (Wealth Feat x2 = ~$2.Million) and don't forget half goes to the lawyers... ---- [[The AMERICAN GODS]]
