The Hopewell Foundation

The Hopewell Foundation is a non-profit, non-governmental think-tank founded by Brian Jaffe to be the premiere advocate for Survivor rights and the central network for postive global use of The Survivors' abilities.

Mission Statement:
     "The group of people referred to collectively as 'the Survivors' or 'the Godlike' find themselves possessed of power unseen in the annals of human history and, through that power, the responsibility to better not just themselves or their own nations, but the entire world. The Hopewell Foundation exists to provide these people with the funding and access they need to make the best, most effective use of that power.
     "For all of that power, though, the Survivors might find themselves at a disadvantage in the everyday world. They may have lost their savings, their jobs, their families; they may find it difficult to get insurance or fair employment. At the simplest level, there may be no one else who understands exactly what they're experiencing. The Hopewell Foundation's other role is to pave the Survivors' way through the world, through legal advocacy, job placement and medical care and to be an understanding shoulder to cry on."

Business Model

Like other think-tanks of its type, the Hopewell Foundation employs a number of scholars who do research and perform consultations for corporations, governments, militaries and other non-governmental organizations (NGOs). The Hopewell Foundation charges a fee for its consulting work, and this fee is assessed on a sliding scale of financial need; those who are least able to pay for the Foundation's services are charged the least, while those with more readily available funds are charged more.

The Foundation's consulting contracts also stipulate that should consultation with the Hopewell Foundation directly results in the development of a new technology (for example a new drug, metalic alloy or computer chip), the Foundation receives 35% ownership of that technology (and, thus, 35% of profits resulting from it) and a contract to buy the manufacturer's products at 55% of the best market price, after waiving its 35% profit share.

As an NGO, the Hopewell Foundation also has a strong development (i.e. fundraising) mandate and seeks out donations from corporations and private citizens, as well as applies for government (foreign and domestic) and private grants.

Job Opportunities

Director of Development
The Hopewell Foundation is looking for a highly creative and open-minded candidate with strong interpersonal and leadership skills and a commitment to public welfare to serve as its Director of Development. The Director will oversee a staff of no fewer than two in grant writing, growth of the development fund and development events around the globe and will work closely with the Director of Finance and the Executive Director to see to the financial needs of the Foundation. The job requires a Masters Degree in public policy, social science or business and at least five years of professional experience and two years of management experience, preferably in a community-focused public purpose enterprise. Grant-writing experience a must. Professional experience in organizational start-up and development strongly preferred. Salary commensurate with experience. | EOE M/F/H/V

Director of Physical Science Research
The Hopewell Foundation is looking for an organized and open-minded candidate with strong leadership skills and a commitment to public welfare to serve as its Director of Physical Science Research. The Director will build and maintain partnerships with independent research facilities throughout the world, coordinate the schedules and research work of a varied staff with those partners and report to the Executive Director and Director of Programs on research progress. The ideal candidate will have a graduate degree in some physical science, an understanding of several others and a minimum of two years experience in research administration. Advocacy Assistant
The Hopewell Foundation is looking for a motivated person with a demonstrated interest in public welfare and human rights and a BA/BS in Political Science, Government, Public Affairs or similar to serve as an Advocacy Assistant. The Assistant will undertake research on legal matters of national and international concern, compile reports on human rights policy and, with the Director of Survivor Advocacy, meet with members of local and national government to present the Hopewell Foundation's case. Strong analytical, writing and computer skills required, as is the ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and statistical packages like SAS, SPSS, or Stata required; ability to manipulate and analyze very large datasets required. Salary: low 30's | EOE M/F/H/V
