Perception[edit]
Perception skills describe your ability to be aware of your surrounding.
Perception Level
Your perception level is determined by your race and describe how well developed is a particular sense. This has an effect on how far your perception can sense things and how well it performs under bad condition.
Perception levels are from worse to best : Low, Poor, Average, Good, Excellent. Check the following table to know your perception range increment and you perception skill modifier.
Excellent | Good | Average | Poor | Low | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Range Increment | 8 sq. | 6 sq. | 4 sq. | 2 sq. | 1 sq. |
Modifier | +4 | +2 | 0 | -2 | -4 |
Active Perception
You can use your perception as a normal skill when you are actively searching for something.
Resistance
You can also use your perception as a Resistance when an opponent tries to do something without you noticing what is going on. Your perception resistance is your appropriate perception skill ranks + 10.
Listen[edit]
Ability | Wisdom |
---|---|
Action | Quick |
Armor Penalty | None |
Untrained | Yes |
Concentration | No |
Description: Your Listen check reflects how quiet the noise is that you might hear.
Check: The following table shows some example of Listen DC needed to hear a certain noise.
Listen DC | Sound |
---|---|
-10 | A battle. |
0 | People talking up. |
5 | A person in medium armor walking trying not to make any noise. |
10 | An unarmored person walking trying not to make any noise |
15 | People whispering. |
20 | A cat stalking. |
30 | An owl gliding in for a kill. |
Some conditions can make hearing a noise more difficult. Some examples are on the following table.
Listen DC Modifier | Condition |
---|---|
+5 penalty | Through a door |
+15 penalty | Through a stone wall |
+5 penalty | Listener distracted by other sound |
A sleeping character may make Listen checks at a -8 penalty. A successful check awakens the sleeper.
Try Again: Yes, you can try to hear something that you failed to hear previously with no penalty assuming the sound is still present.
Feats[edit]
Extended Hearing[edit]
- Your Listen range increment is increased by 1 square.
- Specialist: Listen range increment is increased by 2 square.
- Expert: Listen range increment is increased by 4 square.
- Master: Listen range increment is increased by 8 square.

If your Spot check succeeds, you can understand the general content of a minute's worth of speaking, but you usually still miss certain details.
