Marilla came to Pavis from Sartar as a typical Vingan adventurer. She did the usual adventurer things, she made some money, she met a nice guy (a Zebra rider). They married, and started up a leather-working business. His family did the hunting, one of his cousins did the tanning, he and Marilla did the cutting, sewing, colouring and so on. | |||
For the next twenty-odd years, Marilla did her share of running the business, and brought up their children. They now live in F66, the "Saddler by the Wall". The animal sales next door at F65 is also run by her husband's family. | |||
But time moved on, her children either left home or started taking over large chunks of the family work. She had time on her hands. She got bored. And she was a bit worried about the city her grandchildren were growing up in. So after a chat with her old friend Bissina, she looked out her old adventuring gear, tried on the armour, made some in her current size, and joined the Watch. | |||
She's been with the Watch a couple of seasons now, and the rest will know that while she looks like a typical dumpy housewife and grandmother, you probably don't want to get in the way of her idea of a quick clip round the ear. Out of armour and weapons, she can often calm situations just by not looking like a threat: what thug wants to get a reputation for beating up old ladies? She used to use a sword back in her Vingan days: now she prefers a staff. | |||
She knows the Farmers Quarter very well indeed (she's related to half of it), and the rest of Pavis reasonably well. Her main objective is to preserve the peace and not let anyone get hurt. Especially her (vastly extended) family. | |||

She's an initiate of Ernalda: she hasn't re-activated her Vingan membership. And she became a citizen of Pavis on her marriage. | |||

Background
