This is a page to be filled with details on the various MMOs that are played and/or enjoyed by the denizens of RPG.net.
EVE Online
Genre: Sci-fi
Description: You're a starship pilot many years in the future trying to make your way in the universe.
Produced by: Crowd Control Productions (Iceland)
Cash outlay: $20 initially, $15/month (less if bought in bulk)
RPG.net presence: RPGnet channel, several player-run corporations.
Marvel Heroes 2015
Genre: Comic book superheroes.
Description: The players play characters from Marvel Comics in an extended plot to stop Dr. Doom from taking over the universe.
Produced by: Gazillion Entertainment (California) and Marvel Entertainment
Cash outlay: Free to play, though there is an online store through which you can buy in-game currency.
RPG.net presence: No.
Notes: This one uses a Diablo-style isometric view rather than the typical third-person view. Also note that the characters you play are the Marvel characters; there is very little customization.
Has the typical MMO problem where it is technically free but limited in what you get for free, particularly in inventory space. (Note that your entire roster shares one inventory!)
Really only has one storyline, mentioned above, which you play in Normal difficulty for your hero, then the same story in Heroic difficulty, then Superheroic.
The Secret World
Genre: Modern conspiracy
Description: The players are humans who have been given super abilities and then recruited by one of three over-arching conspiracy groups (The Dragon, The Illuminati, The Templars) to fight supernatural threats.
Produced by: Funcom (Oslo, Norway). Distributed by EA.
Cash outlay: $30 for initial download, free to play. Has extra content for purchase, including missions for late in the game.
RPG.net presence: #rpgnet chat channel. (Join with '/chat join rpgnet' in the chat window.)
Notes: A little tougher than the usual MMO.
Star Trek Online
Genre: Space opera, basically.
Description: The players are new captains travelling in Star Trek space. It's several years after the shows and movies, and the various factions are all at each other's throats. (Again.)
Produced by: Cryptic Studios (California).
Cash outlay: Free to play.
RPG.net presence: RPGnet chat channel, fleets for both factions.
World of Warcraft
Genre: Fantasy.
Description: The granddaddy of MMOs. (Really, if I need to describe it, you haven't been paying attention...)
Produced by: Blizzard Entertainment (California)
Cash outlay: Free to play up to Level 20; $14.99/month to go beyond that.
RPG.net presence: ? (Please fill this in)
