The Rook: Advice to the Adjudicator
Though the list is not exhaustive, be aware of game balance and game effects when adding new descriptors. Bear in mind that descriptors with drastic effects should normally be placed in Traits rather than Boons, as Boons are very easy to come by in-game.
Also, note that to encourage forward movement and aggression, the defensive Boons for Rooks tend to be one or two points weaker than the offensive Boons for Bishops and Knights.
Boons for the Rook
Castellan
Whenever the Rook is a Defence Commander in a War Defence against a Summer Campaign with the Pillage objective, temporarily add +2 to his Protection.
Gaoler
Whenever the Rook is a Defence Commander in a War Defence against a Summer Campaign with the Rescue objective, temporarily add +2 to his Protection.
Keeper
Whenever the Rook is a Defence Commander in a War Defence against a Summer Campaign with the Plunder objective, temporarily add +2 to his Protection.
Kingsguard
Whenever the Rook is a Defence Commander in a War Defence against a Summer Campaign with the Checkmate objective, temporarily add +2 to his Protection.
Manipulator
Whenever he acts as an Agent the Rook adds his Protection to the Attack Strength.
Seelie Intrigue Defence
Whenever the Rook is contributing to Internal Security against Seelie Winter Intrigues, temporarily add +2 to his Protection attribute.
Unseelie Intrigue Defence
Whenever the Rook is contributing to Internal Security against Unseelie Winter Intrigues, temporarily add +2 to his Protection attribute.
Superior Protection
The Rook has +1 to his Protection rating.
Warrior
Whenever he leads a Summer Campaign the Rook adds his Protection to the Attack Strength.
Drawbacks for the Rook
Fuelled
This piece needs Glamour to be operational. For this piece to take any action or participate in any defence costs 1 Glamour.
Guileless
When contributing to Internal Security, the Rook has his Protection rating reduced to 0.
Inferior Protection
The Rook has -1 to his Protection rating.
Bound to the Kingdom
The Rook can never be an Attack Commander nor an Agent.
Traits for the Rook
Behemoth of War
The Rook is truly massive - for example, a dragon the size of a castle, or an elemental spider whose stride spans the horizon. This trait adds +3 to the Protection of the Rook in Summer, but applies a -5 penalty to Protection of the Rook in Winter.
