- Emeterio: One of Melquiades' Contacts, a US Army Indian Scout. Currently heading out to muster at Fort Wallace.
- Quintus Horatius Flaccus Halpin: Melquiades' Ally. From Massachusetts, the son of abolitionists. Knowledgable about Native American populations. Likely has high ranks in Cultures and Linguistics.
- "Wide Smile" Gail: A whore, helping to track down the buffalo hunters for the pack.
