Picture of Fallen Star
Okita Fallen Star, Night caste

Back to Solve For Ex

  • Okita Fallen Star
  • Caste: Night
  • Concept: Night in shining armor
  • Though Fallen Star Exalted when she was only 21, she appears to be in her early middle age due to her years as a mortal gunzosha. Star is tall and strong like most in the Seventh Legion and usually wears her shoulder-length black hair tied back from her face. She has warm brown eyes and a kind, pretty round face that still bears a few minor scars from her service as a commando. When out of her gunzosha armor (which is often in non-combat situations), Star prefers to wear simply-cut tunics and practical leather trousers that show off her well-toned physique. Though Star disdains jewelry, she always carries a fine sword at her side and bears a shining steel shield in battle.

Motivation

  • Safeguard the helpless and deliver them from evil

Intimacies

Natural

Negative

Petty cruelty (Disgust)
Slavery (Moral outrage)

Positive

Lookshy (It's complicated)
Karma (Faith)
Amilar Daylily (Regretful fondness)

Anima

As Star's anima emerges, wisps of pale, white-gold light emerge around her form, coalescing into lantern-like beacons strung around her like the finest of First Age essence lamps. When totemic, the lights swirl around her chaotically, distracting and beguiling opponents like foxfire until observers can no longer make out Star's face.

Star may mute her anima, allowing her to exert her powers without the display of power. When she expends Peripheral Essence, she may spend additional motes in order to prevent the expenditure from adding to her anima banner. To prevent the motes spent on a Charm that is not Obvious from adding to her anima banner, she must add one mote to the cost of the Charm. When using an Obvious Charm, she must spend twice the normal mote cost of the Charm to prevent it from adding to her anima banner.

She may also extend her muted anima like an imperceptible veil around her. This extended anima last for an entire scene and costs 10 motes of Essence to evoke. The anima mutes the senses of those attempting to perceive her, as well as the evidence she leaves behind for those who would follow her trail. Shadows are darker, sounds are muffled, and scent and footprints are both much lighter than normal. This muting increases the difficulty of all rolls to notice or track the Exalted by half Star's Essence (round up), so long as this muted anima effect is active. Once she spends 11-15 motes of Essence, though she is just as obvious as any other Exalt, her features are completely obscured by her anima display.

Artifact 3: Gunzosha Armor

This suit of well-loved armor was given to Star when she joined the ranks of the gunzosha at eighteen. Though the armor has served many gunzosha well in its centuries of hard deployment, its gunmetal grey plates are pristine and polished to a mirror shine, thanks to Star's devoted attention.

Personality

Star's demeanor is usually casual, friendly, and disciplined, but she also has a soft spot for mild mischief and has quite the rakish smile when excited. She seems equally at ease in either the workshop or the battlefield, among the very poor or the disgustingly rich. Star is always polite on first meetings, though subsequent familiarity erodes her formality quite quickly and reveals her deep sense of camaraderie and rough soldier's humor. She loves a hearty meal, loud songs, and good stories among close friends, and hates harmful abuses of power.

History

Okita Fallen Star was born in Lookshy, to middle-class citizens living in the War Quarter. She joined the military at sixteen like many other youths at the time, but she enjoyed it and excelled so much that at the end of her mandatory civil service she was offered a position as a gunzosha in the First Field Force Rangers. She happily accepted, was fitted with aegis inset amulets and gunzosha armor and shipped out to a redoubt near Greyfalls.

Star did reconaissance, subterfuge, and sabotage against Greyfalls for about two years while the war with Thorns and their Realm allies raged, with occasional skirmishes that blossomed into outright battles as the war progressed. Once when her unit was ambushed, Star protected her commander after he was wounded, keeping him alive long enough that the others managed to beat back the ambushing forces. In return, he recommended her to the General Staff as an armiger. Her abilities and character were tested, but she was eventually accepted.

Star was assigned a ward to protect from danger: Daylily, one of Lookshy's valuable sorcerer-engineers. Star and Daylily were deployed all over the Scavenger Lands- Daylily performed battlefield triage on Lookshy's warstriders and lightning ballista and Star watched her back. Daylily even helped Star with her gunzosha training, teaching her to maintain her armor and a few other little tricks. No matter how well they did, however, the war continued to drag on.

On the penultimate day of the Battle of Mishaka, Star discovered that the leaders of the Lookshy army were planning to deploy a devastating doomsday First Age device on the field, in the middle of their own men. She confronted Daylily about this and begged her to stop it, tried to convince her that they could win without such desperate measures, but was unable to sway her. Their argument was all the more bitter for their friendship, and they both left feeling angry and betrayed.

That night, she stole Daylily's engineer manuals and snuck out of their tent. She eventually found where the general was keeping the doomsday device, deep in a bunker surrounded by guards. Through skill and luck, Star managed to sneak past them and find the device. After several hours of desperate tinkering, she only just dismantled it in time, pocketing a key portion so that it could not be reassembled. It was only then that she noticed the glowing, and the symbol shining on her forehead.

Using her newfound power to quench the halo of light that surrounded her, Star then slipped out with trivial ease. She knew that she couldn't stay with the Legion now- she'd eventually be found out. But Star stayed for one more day, watching Daylily's back invisibly as the Battle of Mishaka raged around them. When the tide of battle finally turned in Lookshy's favor, Star slipped away, leaving to look for something new.

Goals

  • Free Corbin from his stupid mistake of swearing allegiance to the Perfect
  • Recreate the magitechnical amenities of the First Age for the people of the South
  • Discover more about the true history of the "Anathema"
  • Ensure that those who mean Creation harm have their teeth pulled before they can do so
  • Establish a support/spy network across the South, so that those who need help always get it
  • Stop those who would abuse their power to harm others
  • Find Daylily and make up (someday)

NPCs

Okita Meili

Star's mother, a citizen of Lookshy and wife to Okita Frozen Rain. A devout woman, Meili volunteers a lot of her time at her local shrine to Tien Yu.

Okita Frozen Rain

Star's father, a chozei of Lookshy's Third Field Force. Though he is getting on in years, Rain has yet to retire from semi-active duty and is usually found training men in the use of heavy weapons in and around Lookshy itself.

Misoka Junpei

The kazei of the First Field Force Rangers, the unit Star was assigned to for two years. A young man, he has significant influence in Lookshy due to his father, who is on the Administrative Staff. Star saved his life when their unit was ambushed out near Greyfalls, and in return he recommended her to the General Staff as an armiger.

Amilar Daylily

Star's ex-ward and closest friend, a sorcerer-engineer graduate of Valkhawsen and mortal daughter of a Dragonblooded in the Sky Guard. Very intelligent, vivacious, and pretty, she and Star got along well together from day one. The two were inseparable until their argument at the Battle of Mishaka.

Corbin Marceau

Star's best enemy from the Thorns war, a Wood-aspect duelist from Thorns who harried the First Field Force Rangers for most of a year. Though they were enemies, Corbin was always flawlessly courteous and honorable to Star's unit and even arranged a few prisoner exchanges. Recently, Star has discovered that he has sworn allegiance to the Perfect of Paragon since the downfall of Thorns.
