Host bodies are anchors for souls that prevent the soul from dissipating into Astral Plane and (usually) allow the soul control over its physical movement.
In general, only one soul can occupy one body at the same time, unless it was specially magically prepared to hous more than two. The soul can only be evicted by powerful magic, if the body is destroyed/killed, or if it leaves voluntarily.
