A Badge of Gold Campaign and its subordinate adventures are run under the ruleset of First Edition Star Trek Adventures.

About Stardate 4657.5, which corresponds to the year 2268, the USS Enterprise encountered extra-galactic survivors of a starship crash; using advanced technology, this species (known as "Kelvans", and who claimed to come from the Andromeda galaxy) took control of the Enterprise and proceeded to modify it in order to return to their home galaxy. After engine and structural modifications, the command crew managed to retake control of the Enterprise and came to a satisfactory agreement with the Kelvans. The changes made to the Enterprise were analyzed and integrated into Fleet Design for new starships. ICW allowed speeds in excess of what was then Warp 15, and these changes are slowly filtering out into the fleet, with the result that the Warp Speed Scales are currently being reworked to fit within the '10-scale' of travel.
