Chronicles of the Daybringers

The Daybringers are just one of the five teams sent by Rivers Between Us with a simple mission: To Do Good. Every month they report back to the Plum Blossom Retreat to report on their good deeds, to repair their equipment, and to replace any casualties. Here are the original members of the Daybringers.
- Selara: One-eyed war veteran of Mishaka, the Battle of Breaking Iron, and countless smaller skirmishes, Selara has been granted the ability to use a few techniques from the Snake style to defend righteousness in the Marukan. She is tall, wiry, with olive green skin and irises the color of polished silver. She is equipped with gunzosha armor, a seven section staff, paired hook swords, and iron determination.
- Yao Ye: Fearless, foolhardy, and only fifteen, Yao Ye is the Daybringer’s spirit censer. Her hunger for life is equally matched by her boundless appetite. She has the ability to see and reprimand wayward spirits. Yao Ye has orange-red skin, burgundy hair as thick and soft as petals, and smells faintly of jasmine. She is also equipped with gunzosha armor, a shock pike, and a short sword.
- Shu Zhuang: Widower and father of five, forty-six years old, he is no stranger to loss. Shu Zhuang has all the patience of the tortoise and half its winning personality. Even so, those who heed his words remember him fondly later. Shu is the Daybringer’s loremaster. He is short, with brown and craggy skin, a bald head, fingers as thick and knobby as old roots, and a barrel chest. He is equipped with reams of parchment, gallons if ink, and the latest edition of Nameless Ravine’s scriptures.
- Zhou Wing: Once a scout on the southern border, this nineteen year-old has joined the hunt as a way to redeem himself for a friendly fire accident that claimed his partner’s life. Zhou Wing is the team’s surgeon and resident miracle worker. He has gray, feathery hair, skin so pale it’s almost translucent, and long, delicate fingers (minus one on his left hand). He is equipped with bandages, acupuncture needles, and a bo staff.
- Toruna: The team’s commander, confessor, and cook, Toruna is from the distant south. Not much is known about her, except that she is a hard leader with a pragmatic eye toward success. She wields countermagic, travel magic, and a disturbing understanding of local customs. Toruna has midnight black skin and eyes, hair as hard and sharp as obsidian, and is easily a head taller than anyone she meets. Toruna is equipped with lamellar armor, a shockpike, and a straight sword.
Together, these five will journey throughout the wild hinterlands of Eastern Marukan, bringing the light of the chosen wherever they go. They are the Daybringers, and this is their story.
