Overview of Tiered Attributes

TIERED ATTRIBUTES:

  • First Tier Attributes: Record Spheres (as determined per Draconic Breed)
  • Second Tier Attributes: Record Defence Values, Energy Pools and Resilience Points.

First Tier Attributes: Record Spheres

There are three Spheres used in Age of Dragons:

Soma is "body" - the clay from which a dragon's physical body is formed. Those with strong soma are brutally powerful, resilient and physically adept. They tend to be more agile when on the wing, and can achieve greater feats of strength and endurance. A Dragon's Soma attribute sets the dice pool for any tasks relating to pure physical prowess.

Sophis is "mind" - the intellect and will that governs and guides the Dragon. A strong sophis indicates keen intelligence, good memory, strong logic and great force of will. Dragons with well-developed sophis are not easily dissuaded from their chosen course, and are more adept at intellectual pursuits of all sorts. A Dragon's Sophis attribute sets the dice pool for any tasks relating to mental strength or mental agility.

Pneuma is "breath" - the mystical force which the Mother Goddess animated the first Dragons, and the living energy that accounts for all movement and change in the world, be it the burning of a candle, the flow of a river, or the flight of a dragon. A Dragon's Pneuma attribute sets the dice pool for any tasks which relate to social charm, using magic, artistic creativity, environmental awareness or acting with grace and fluidity. Essentially any task that doesn't easily fit under the auspices of Soma or Sophis can be handled using Pneuma.

You have 17 points to allocate to your Spheres, and can allocate a minimum of 4 points to any one sphere, and a maximum of 7 points.

The only other limitation to this is your Breed. Each Draconic Breed has a Dominant Sphere listed. When you allocate points, you must ensure that your Dominant Sphere is at least 1 point higher than your lowest sphere.

For example, Pure Dragons have a Dominant Sphere of Sophis, so sphere ratings of Sophis 5, Soma 6, Pneuma 6 would not be allowed for them.

The dominant sphere for each breed are listed in the Breed Descriptions.

Note that an average human has only has Soma 1, Sophis 1 and Pneuma 1, with well trained humans reaching a single Sphere rating of 2, and the most exceptional perhaps with 3 in one Sphere.

Dragons are powerful in body and presence, exceptionally clever, potent in magic, and generally superior to mere mortals. Even the slowest witted dragon still is mentally superior to the smartest of humans, and even the feeblest dragon can overpower a muscular mortal man.

Second Tier Attributes: Record Defence Values, Energy Pools and Resilience Points

Your Defence Values describe your dragon's defences against various forms of attack.

  • Your Physical Defence is equal to your Soma sphere multiplied by 3.
  • Your Mental Defence is equal to your Sophis sphere multiplied by 3
  • Your Arcane Defence is equal to your Pneuma sphere multiplied by 3

Your Energy Pools determine how often you can use your powers.

  • Your Physical Energy pool is equal to your Soma sphere multiplied by 2.
  • Your Mental Energy pool is equal to your Sophis sphere multiplied by 2.
  • Your Arcane Energy pool is equal to your Pneuma sphere multiplied by 2.

You spend Energy to activate your powers. If you don't have sufficient of the right sort of Energy to activate a power, then you can't activate that power.

  • Each hour you regenerate Physical Energy equal to your Soma sphere.
  • Each hour you regenerate Mental Energy equal to your Sophis sphere.
  • Each hour you regenerate Arcane Energy equal to your Pneuma sphere.

Powers that use Physical Energy are called Feats. Powers that use Mental Energy are called Disciplines. Powers that use Arcane Energy are called Suspires. The Feats, Disciplines and Suspires have access to are determined by your Lifepath choices.

Your Resilience Points determine how resistant you are to injury: physical, mental or social.

  • Your Physical Resilience pool is equal to your Soma sphere multiplied by 6.
  • Your Mental Resilience pool is equal to your Sophis sphere multiplied by 6.
  • Your Arcane Resilience pool is equal to your Pneuma sphere multiplied by 6.

Physical, mental and social attacks and hazards can injure your physical, mental and social resilience.
Your Resilience Points each regenerate back slowly.

  • Each hour you regenerate Physical Resilience equal to your Soma sphere.
  • Each hour you regenerate Mental Resilience equal to your Sophis sphere.
  • Each hour you regenerate Arcane Resilience equal to your Pneuma sphere.

Being reduced to 0 Resilience has detrimental effects.

  • If you have 0 Physical Resilience you are Dying.
  • If you have 0 Mental Resilience you are Broken.
  • If you have 0 Arcane Resilience you are Negated.
