While I do support rcaail stat modifiers(+ and -), this article left me cold too. Basically, I think the title was misused. The entire thrust of the article was more pointed at the concept of abstraction vs. world based mechanics. Not really story based mechanics.Based on the last few articles you've written about your current taste in RPGs, I can see where it would be particularly disappointing.I will say though that if they're letting the world dictate mechanics, rather than an arbitrary mathematical equation, it bodes well for actual story based mechanics and their potential to exist within the new framework. What I mean is that allowing story to influence the mechanics in 4E is a bit more of a struggle than in previous editions because it's so flawlessly balanced. The concept in a design like that is that story is de-coupled from mechanics, that you can kind of just say whatever you want and let the mechanics remain unchanged. I hope that 5e moves a bit in the other direction. It will make my life as a storyteller (and story encourager) easier I think. Also, props on all the content lately. This place is booming. I'm gonna have to start visiting every day again. Nice.
