Unlike 99% of the teenagers on the planet, Glenn Tomorrow didn’t want super powers. He grew up around them. They were a part of day to day life and, ultimately, they were a part that never really interested him. He was always a bright kid, had lots of friends, stayed out of trouble. Enjoyed himself, but always had a focus on what he wanted, and was willing to work hard to get there. Excelled all through school, got a scholarship (he was the poster boy for what most of them wanted, after all) at a good business school. Had plans to go to law school, focusing on metahuman law. Growing up around an assortment of super-powered people had left him very hard to phased which, coupled with smarts and a natural talent for talking to people, set him up to do very well in that field. Overall, he had a pretty solid time going through some pretty rough years of most peoples’ lives. Of course, everything changed midway through first year. He was visiting The Magister, primarily to conduct an interview for a class he was taking on metahuman history. There was an attack; a rival wizard decided this was a good time to try and take The Magister out. The villain was defeated, and the day was saved, of course, but the whole experience altered Glenn. It awaked something in him, a mystic, powerful, dark force. Glenn was scared and confused at first…he though someone was trying to possess him. Once The Magister calmed him down, he was able to figure out what had happened. Glenn had become a Warlock – the descendant of someone who had made a demonic pact so powerful that the dark energies had fused with his soul, and been passed down, dormant, waiting to be awakened. The current leading theory is that it never happened to anyone before Glenn because they all developed powers that kept the demonic energy submerged. Lucky him, right? But it got worse. The Magister was able to trace his power back to its origin – his great uncle Thadeus. One of the darkest super-villains in history. He formed the pact out of jealously at those around him, because they had wondrous powers and he didn’t. He got his powers, but it cost him his humanity. It took no fewer than 32 family members to bring him down – the largest such group in history. Seven died in the fight. And now Glenn was his inheritor.

'''On Warlocks'''

As described earlier, a Warlock is someone who has inherited a fragment of demonic power from an ancestor. They are not bound by the pact, but still have access to the power. They have eldritch energies coursing through their bodies that they can harness and learn to shape in various ways. Unlike a wizard, they use no rituals or incantations designed to channel magical power. They shape it simply using their wills and their innate abilities. While this makes for high self-reliance and repetitiveness, it doesn’t promote diversity. As such, most warlocks know only a small repertoire of abilities. Two traits are common towards all warlocks. The first is the eldritch blast, which is no more than a directed expulsion of unshaped energies. Some are more powerful/accurate, or have learned to shape and control the blast in various ways, but all warlocks can do it. The colour of each warlock’s energy is different. Some say it reflects upon the wielder’s soul, but no direct correlation has ever been established. The second innate power is resistance to magic. This develops to allow their bodies the weather the mystical energies that they are now direct conduits for. In rare instances where a Warlock doesn't have this resistance, they develop a condition called Eldritch Erosion Syndrome, a degenerative condition in which the mystical energies slowly eat away at the body at a cellular level, characterized by notably green veins, and eventual painful death. It is always fatal, but can be slowed by refraining to use the energies. Another trait common to all warlocks in the Eldritch Spark, usually referred to simply as the spark. A normal human, when put in a situation that they perceive as dangerous, will react in certain unconscious biological ways. Their muscles tense, adrenaline is released; simply put, their body is preparing them to act to avoid harm. All these things happen for a warlock, but additionally the eldritch energies become more active, in anticipation of use. Aside from being detrimental to people already suffering from EES, it can sometimes manifest physically, usually in the form of a crackling of energy around the hands or a flashing of the eyes.
