Owen Osgood / The Octopus Spider

"I was impressed by Doctor Octavious growing up. No, not his criminal career. Did I use his popular nom de guerre? No. Doctor Otto Octavious. He was a brilliant man in several fields. And while I detest what he has put them to use doing, his mechanical appendages are quite amazing. Can you imagine what good could be done if those arms where replicated for wider use? I mean, search and rescue alone. After a major earthquake somewhere in the world, how many more lives could be saved with a team of ten people wearing mechanical arms like his helping to search through the rubble of collapsed buildings? So I decided to try and make a prototype version. A better version. Not to disparage the Doctor's creation, but he was better known as a nuclear physicist when he created them, and my expertise is in robotics. I was sure that if I got my hands on a set of schematics for the Doctor's arms, I could find numerous ways to improve upon their design. And I was right. But I may have underestimated the level of security Doctor Octopus had put in place to safeguard his designs. And I may have also underestimated the level of precautions needed to prevent a fusion between the user and the prototype (although I will note that I did have more safeguards in place than Doctor Octavious did when he had his accident). So now I find myself in a similar position to a man that chose a dark path when his life was dramatically changed. To paraphrase Frost, I shall choose the path less traveled by, and hope to make a difference."

Look

Average height skinny white boy with a decent haircut. Prefers geeky clothes. Costumed in something offering a level of protection yet retaining flexibility.

Powers

Abilities: prosthetic self-altering limbs

Labels

Danger +1, Freak 0, Savior +1, Superior +2, Mundane -1

Moves

Scientific insight: You have achieved mastery over a field of science and technology. Name it: Robotics. Whenever you assess the situation and your field of study is directly relevant, you may ask a single follow-up question.

Always prepared: When you have a chance to restock your supplies, hold up to 2-gadgets. When you unleash your powers by producing a brand new minor invention or gadget from your supply, spend 1-gadget and roll + Superior. When you reach 0-gadgets, mark a condition.

Tactical genius: When you point out the obvious flaw in a known foe’s plan, roll + Savior. On a hit, you’re right, and another teammate (your choice) can take advantage; they get +1 ongoing to act on your information. On a 7-9, pick one: - You missed something important. The GM will tell you what. - You look like a showoff. Your chosen teammate takes Influence over you, and you lose Influence over them. - You make your teammates feel like little more than pawns. Your chosen teammate marks a condition. On a miss, you’ve played into your enemy’s hands; watch the trap spring.

My Shame

AI Doctor Octopus- A stored back up of Ock's intelligence and personality, made by the doctor prior to any attempts to copy himself into someone else or a new bod; accidentally awakened/unleashed by Owen when he went looking through the Ock's files for details on arm construction.

Backstory

How did you first reveal your genius to your friends or family? When I disassembled various appliances around the house to build a basic, but functional, robot.

Why did you decide to use your intellect for the benefit of others? Because I've grown up in a world where I've seen so many different brilliant inventions used to hurt people instead of help people.

What accident or misfire taught you some sense of humility or responsibility? When I accidentally grafted a set of mechanical arms to my back. I thought Doc Ock had woefully underestimated the amount of precautions needed to use them. And apparently even what I thought was sufficient safeguards was lacking in some key areas.

Who helped you realize you need other people? Spider-man (Owen has no clue which one, and theoretically it could be either (Peter being more familiar with Ock's old hideouts/tech, Ben being the active Spider when this occured)) saving me when the security on Doctor Octopus' lab found me and tried to end me.

When our team first came together...

When our team first came together... I created something lasting and beneficial for the whole team. What was it?
