They had gone downtown to shop for clothes for the upcoming school-year.  Unfortunately, and unbeknownst to them, at the same time some super-creep had gone beserk and was ripping things up.  As they were leaving a department store, a bolder-sized piece of rubble fell towards them. Instictively, Travis threw up his arm in an assumedly futile attempt to ward it off.  They all cowered, waiting to be crushed under the chunk of concrete.  But it never came.  As they looked up to see why they were still alive, they saw the instument of their doom falling a few dozen feet away in the middle of the empty street.  Travis was the only one who had seen the air rip open at his gesture, and the chunk of concrete dissappear into the gap in space...

Travis soon found himself being shipped off by his parents to the Institute for Superhuman Research and Training, where he spent the next year training and being examined by the institute's staff.  As far as he was concerned it was a year long field day!  Travis loved having superpowers and was always looking for new ways to use them.  The Institute was the perfect place for this.  He also had a blast hanging out with other superpowered kids. Travis became fast friends with a girl by the name of Darcy Choi who has powers of insubstantiality and light control.  He also managed to cross paths with a kid who went by the name of Opticon.  For whatever reason (not the least of which being that Opticon is a self-aggrandizing, pompous jerk) the two of them almost always came to blows when they were together.  A fact that was exacerbated by Travis being able to reflect his optic blasts, and Opticon being immune to his own powers.  The two were always at each other, but not able to effect each other.

After leaving The Institute, Travis finished up highshcool and enrolled in college at Western.  He managed to keep his powers pretty low-key, even with his roommate always trying to convince him that they should be peeking in on the co-ed showers... It was while he was at college that he made his first big superhero debut, when he foiled a jewel heist by the notorious Red Raven.  It was also when he ran afoul of the supervillianess Bad Penny, who has taken a fancy to him ever since.

Now that Travis is a member of the Last Watch and a full-time superhero, he is in heaven.
