Court Functionary: My knowledge of how bureaucracies function lets me gain access to the records and inner workings of any noble court or government I encounter. Fighting Style (Dueling): +2 damage when wielding melee one-handed.
Second Wind: Bonus action to regain 1d10+ftr level hp. Rest recharge.

Shield Master
- If I take lhe Attack action on my turn, I can use a bonus aclion to try to shove a creature within 5 feet of me with my shield.
- If I'm not incapacitated, I can add my shield's AC bonus to any Dex save I make against a spell or other harmful effect that targets only me.
- If I'm subjected to an effect that allows me to make a Dex save to take only 1/2 damage, I can use my reaction to take no damage if I succeed on the save.

Trait 1: Unfailingly polite.
Trait 2: Curious about Faerunian customs.
Ideal: Honor. It is the unbreakable armor of the self.
Bond: My lost love Li Mei, away beyond the great inland sea.
Flaw: Prone to bouts of red anger. An undesired trait in the courts of Shou Lung, and a constant source of shame.

It is my great honor to be Lao Xiaobo, liaison to the Barbaric West in His Most Powerful Celestial Majesty's Ministry of State, and attendant to the Most Worthy Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade Wan Li Wen. To my everlasting sorrow, Master Wan has recently perished -- the victim of extreme exertion in the act of lovemaking. The Deputy Minister did so enjoy availing himself of Lord Piergeiron's hospitality in this manner, and few are the escorts in the Paladinson's employ who did not recognize the nobly plump visage of Wan Li Wen.

As a dutiful servant of the Mandarinate of Shou Lung, I have spent countless hours at my master's side in the court of the Open Lord's palace, amazed and agape at the rituals of courtly life here in this western metropolis. It seemed to me that Master Wan took little interest in his solemn duty to facilitate trade between the Uttermost West and mighty Shou Lung, may the Emperor strike me down for saying so. While the minister took his leisure in the pleasure houses of the Castle Ward, I learned all I could of the intricate dance of favors, politics, and intrigue that defined power among the elite.

In my own spare time, I have studied the western martial arts of the long sword and shield with the renowned master Myrmith Splendon in the Trades Ward. I find the style crude but brutally effective, and Splendon has remarked on my aptitude.

I must admit that I have become more and more enamored of these western barbarians and their unrefined customs. I find myself in a state of diplomatic limbo here in the palace, bereft of the Deputy Minister. Lord Piergeiron has been accommodating and gracious, but I yearn to test my western steel against a worthy foe, and to experience the full breadth of life here in the forgotten West. Adventure awaits on the streets of Waterdeep, and I fear I lack the discipline to resist its siren call.
