A Player character (usually abbreviated as PC) is a character controlled by one of the players. Player characters are the protagonists of the game and it is their adventures that role-playing games are all about. In most cases, a player will control only one player character, but some games encourage players to have more than one character. An example of this would be the troupe style of play featured in Ars Magica.

Compare non-player character.
