- The three boats initially purchased are shallow drafting river boats, similar to the keel boats shown here: http://www.museum.state.il.us/RiverWeb/landings/Ambot/TECH/TECH1.htm.
- They have the following statistics:
- Length: 40'
- Beam: 15'
- Draft: 4'
- Crew: One captain, two sailors, eight rowers
- Propulsion: 8 rowers or sail
- AC 1, 30 structural hp
- Speed of 72 while going downstream, 36 upstream.
- Capacity in addition to crew: 600 stone
- Note that each person plus gear takes up 30 stone.
