August

  • August 1 - During a Congressional recess, President Bush appoints hotly contested nominee John Bolton as the United States' ambassador to the U.N., side-stepping the need to have him approved by the Senate.
  • August 1 - Saudi Arabia's King Fahd dies; the new king, King Abdullah, is seen as a moderate who will not make many changes to the country.
  • August 1 - Republican Senators John McCain, John Warner and Lindsey Graham proposed a Bill to expressly prohibit cruel, inhumane or degrading treatment of detainees in U.S. custody. McCain stated that the issue of torture is "not about who they are. It's about who we are." The Bill frustrated the White House and ammendments forced it to be tabled until the Senate reconvenes in September.

  • January 30 - The first Parliamentary elections in Iraq since the overthrow of the Ba'ath Party government led by Saddam Hussein take place.
  • January 28 - Confirmation of Condoleeza Rice as Secretary of State.
  • January 26 - A helicopter crash in eastern Iraq kills 31 United States soldiers.
  • January 24 - President Bush meets with "March for Life" participants. President Bush preempts Television programs to air his full "American Gods" speech. During this speech broadcast, although no deaths are reportedly caused directly, more than 500 people are injured after towns up the New England coast experience multiple earthquakes measuring as high as 7.4 on the Richter scale, the quakes are felt as far south as Maryland and Washington DC, North America. Simultantiously similar earthquakes shake the Mongolian Region of the Eastern Gobi desert steppe (New England's Antipode) between Ulaanbaatar (48°N 107°E) and the little lake of Iren-dubasu-nor (43°N 111°E ).
  • January 23 - Johnny Carson dies. The Survivors depart for their individual homes.
  • January 22 - Survivor - Ashton Sawyer dies of heart failure at 4:23am EST. The Survivors press conference near the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC. President Bush makes weekly radio address (about freedom, anti-terror and the beginings of his "American Gods" speech).
  • January 21 - The Survivors leave Celera in Seattle by air under the power of "Godlike" Ashton Sawyer bound for the Celera facility in Washington DC. Late in the evening amatuer digital footage is taken of Brian Jaffe in Georgetown, Washington DC - apparently lifting a city bus. The footage is on-line before the night ends.
  • January 20 - The Survivors wake up from their "comas", their location is Seattle Genetics an ally of Celera. The Seattle Genetics campus is located in Bothel, WA near Seattle. George W. Bush is inaugurated in Washington D.C. for his second term as 43rd President of the United States.
  • January 19 - President Bush attends "Celebration of Freedom" concert for military.
  • January 18 - President Bush attends "Saluting Those Who Serve" event.
  • January 14 - The Huygens probe lands on Titan, largest moon of planet Saturn.
  • January 12 - Deep Impact (space mission) is launched from Cape Canaveral by a Delta 2 rocket.
