Background

Devrin Morrington grew up in a well-respected, affluent family. As the fourth son, he was free to mostly be a playboy and get into mischief with his other playboy friends, even well into his twenties. One of his closest friends was a boy whose family had evacuated the Precipice Quarter and thus Dev's friends would often explore the dangerous quarter.

One day, the ground collapsed beneath Dev and he fell deep underground, shattering many bones. Luckily he landed in a cavern full of powerful spirits, where glowing mushrooms flourished on the shore of a deep lake and frogs croaked strange melodies. These spirits took mercy on Devin and saved his life, infusing his body and soul with their healing magics. His injuries were grave enough that even this miraculous intervention could not restore Dev to full health; he remains frailer to this day.

Dev returned to the surface with a new purpose. He continues to explore dangerous and liminal places but now he seeks out hidden nature to protect. He has also begun to wonder if he might somehow use his family connections to protect wild places and wild life but this is a realm that much stranger and trickier for Devrin to navigate.
