Amelita Galli-Curci on wikipedia

Amelita is one of the most widely-regarded sopranos of the age. She was born into a middle-class family in Milan and studied piano while young. She took up singing soon after and in 1906, at the age of 24, made her debut on the opera stage. She was soon touring all of Europe and South America in a wide variety of roles and by 1916 had received astounding success with the Chicago Opera Company in America, where she remains to the present day. Wherever she goes, she almost always sings to a packed house.

Several rumors persist about the strangeness of Amelita's personal life. One is that her unparalleled vocal mastery comes from training under the yoga guru Paramhansa Yogananda. The other is that no less a person than Jack Dempsey taught her how to box. Whatever her secret, Amelita looks much younger than her 42 years would suggest.

The woman first encountered our Intrepid Explorers aboard the Orient Express while they were en route to Vienna and she was on a visit home.
