Recently John Stevens hosted a lecture on the horrors of the Zoo. Here is the accounts of one participant of the lecture.

''I have heard many things about this John Stevens person. How he came from the wilds of Africa and how he is not right in the head. When a friend of mine told me that he had an invitation to hear this man speak about zoos, and their horror, I had to go.

We sat in the middle of the auditorium in about the 10th or 11th row from the stage, they were pretty good seats as we had arrived at a few minutes before the lecture was to begin. As we sat there we heard the buzz in the crowd, and it was not good news for John as the people in the audience were thinking the claims were insane.

John finally came out on stage and greeted us. He started right in with the lecture about how Zoos are just prisons for animals. How they are not allowed to roam freely, and how their rights are taken from them in captivity. This brought a smattering of chuckles and laughter from the audience. But none of us expected what happened next.

It seemed like John did not know what to do hearing the laughter and the boos. The look upon his face told me that he believed the words he was saying, that maybe he did not phrase them properly. He then turned towards the left of the stage and said, “Felix, come introduce yourself to these nice people”

We all focused our attention on the left side of the stage, thinking that another Man was going to come out and speak to us, but to our astonished surprise, it was a lion. Uncaged, unchained and loose. Needless to say the front row started to panic, and immediately started to shift and get up from their seats. Then the smell of urine filled the air from a few rows in front of me as I saw a huge man start to shake with fear.

John noticed this chaos start to come forth and a small smile appeared on his face, “Do not worry so much about Felix, he will not harm a single one of you unless he is told to. This is my friend, and companion.” Then John leaned down and started to pet the Lion, and the Lion seemed to like it. ‘Felix’ closed his eyes and actually laid down on the stage. An audible purr was heard through out the hall, but that did not stop the first and second row and the man who wet himself to not run out of the auditorium in utter fear.

As the lion rolled over to its side and John slowly pet its belly, he looked upon the audience and said, “Man and animal can live together. Felix here shares my home, he is not put in a cage, he is not put on a leash. He comes and goes as he pleases. Now, I shall lower a cage upon Felix, and we shall see what happens to animals when they become captive.”

With that, a cage slowly lowered down upon the purring cat, and once the metal had been placed around Felix, a growl started to come from the lion. Then he stood up and started to pace, feeling trapped he looked upon the audience and roared. He thrashed against the cage, and I would be lying if I told you I was not afraid for my life.

John again looked upon the audience a small smile on his face, and then shook his head looking upon the Lion. “Felix, that is no way to show these people that Zoos are friendly nice places, lets get you out of that cage.”

With that there was a audiable cry from the audience of no, and a mad rush from the theater. I was one of the people heading towards the exit, running with all my speed from the building, why they let this mad man loose upon the city, I have no clue. They really need to lock him up, but not in a zoo, in a prison.
