Rina: Gagh! Yebat' menya … !
Joshua: Hi, love.
Rina: (thready) … You look as good as I feel …
Joshua: Feel like crap. All right. Yeah.
Rina: Yeah. Thanks to Little Miss Marker, here. (winces) Check her pockets. She took three bottles from … Arden's drug cabinet. Agh … that's what the altercation's about.

Joshua turns from his wife and regards Mische evenly.

Joshua: Should I be concerned?
Mische: No.
Joshua: Okay. We'll replace it later.
Rina: (to self) Arden, sorry you got robbed…
Joshua: I'll pay it out of the funds, Rina. Relax.

Joshua has his earbud comms in his ear. One of the perks of having the Independents pay for repairs after their recent battle with Reaver Mike Carter Superspy ™ , was their companion offer to restock their weapons locker. Which offer the crew very happily took up. When we stepped off-ship, we stepped off with the comms in our ears. Joshua keys his and tries raising the rest of the crew.

Joshua: Hello?
Rina: (over her comm) Yes? Comin' in real clear.
Joshua: Captain's not answering.
Rina: That's not good.
Joshua: Maybe she's … she's … well, you know.
Rina: If so, she's being awfully quiet.
Joshua: I was going to suggest she was getting it on with an Alliance officer but I just can't see it happening.

Rina grimaces at the idea.

Rina: That little girl is getting an education right now unless she's blocking what I'm thinking.
Joshua: I'm 100% certain she has learned everything there is to learn already. (to Mische) What do I need to be cautious about? You know the station.
Mische: Werner can be bribed.
Joshua: Werner can be bribed. I'm assuming Niska isn't going to be able to be bribed with anything other than the cargo?
Mische: That's the most valuable thing you have, probably. Not including your ship.
Joshua: And I'm not really interested in giving him either, to be honest. What's the direction that hurts?

He points back the way we came. Rina speaks up from the table.

Rina: She says they're animals.
Mische: There are … they aren't quite people.
Rina: Are they Reavers?
Joshua: Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. The sort of like … (gestures) …these are the ones, like, that are just … not quite human? Like they've done something to? (off Mische's look) Yeah. I know those guys. Wait. He keeps them here? Is there something like, like—
Mische: They're on the frigate.
Joshua: They're on the frigate.
Rina: The frigate.

Which was docked between the lounge and our ship. What is the Alliance Navy doing transporting Blue Sun hunters?

Joshua: Well! Frikkin' on the frigate! (gets a grip) They are … they are unholy, those things are. They should not exist.
Rina: (softly) Hey, one of them is my brother.
Mische: They're actually not that hard to Read.
Joshua: Why would you want to?
Mische: Well … if we have to.
Rina: We. There's more of you.
Mische: We …
Joshua: Don't feed her paranoia. So … stay away from the frigate. If … let's just say, hypothetically, that the rest of my crew did something that got the attention of Niska, not that they would have started a fight or anything on those lines, but if they did, where would they be?
Mische: There's a brig.
Joshua: What's the security like on the brig?
Mische: Pretty good. I mean, I could get out.
Joshua: (softly) Of course, you could. You strike me as very able.
Mische: But getting them out will be challenging.

Joshua notes that on his mental list and pushes on.

Joshua: So Niska's a horrible horrible man and he—
Mische: You've heard the name Potemkin.
Joshua: Uh-huh.
Mische: Probably similar.
Rina: (intones) I told you they were all related.
Mische: I don't know how powerful your Potemkin was but this one is very powerful. He controls the whole planet and has … tentacles everywhere.
Joshua: It sounds like Potemkin wanted to be Niska.
Mische: Maybe.
Joshua: Torture? The whole kit and caboodle.
Mische: Yes.
Joshua: Great.
Mische: He doesn't even care if it works on the person he's torturing. It's not about that for him.
Joshua: (getting a grip!) O-kay. So. Two things. One: we have got to get this ship refueled and off this station. And second—and fairly simultaneously with getting the ship refueled—we have to find everyone else and get them on board.

Pretty much sums it up.

Rina: Who is Werner? And why can he be bribed?
Mische: He's the Director of the station. Why can he be bribed? Because he's like most people.
Joshua: He likes money. Unfortunately we are not well-equipped to bribe him. (thinks) What are the options ….?
Rina: Right. Do you know where the frigate is going?
Mische: I don't know if it's going anywhere. But I can find out. Why?
Rina: (sighs) It's a long shot—
Joshua: Let's stick with the short shot before we move to the long shot.
Rina: (to Mische) I'm looking for my brother.
Joshua: (not now!) Can we—?
Rina: (relenting) But. First … Our crew. And refueling.
Joshua: No, I get it. See, now that you've said that, I can't—I can't unhear it. Now I have to find out some way to see if he's one of them.
Mische: If he's one of them, he's gone. (very quietly) There's no point. He died when they did it. Or worse.

Rina nods without saying a word and looks away. Joshua can't do anything about the matter plaguing his wife, so does something constructive—he makes sure he can't raise the rest of the crew on the earbuds. With that resource off the table, he turns to the one he hasn't explored yet.

Joshua: (to Mische) I know I'm asking a lot but what can you do to help me either refuel this ship so we can leave or I'm assuming that since my crew isn't responding to my calls on our comms channels they are almost certainly in the brig or worse.
Mische: I didn't really see your crew so I don't know any of them.
Joshua: I am happy to open up to you, so you can see what you want to see if you want to be able to—.
Mische: It's hard to do it that way—you know.
Joshua: I know, I know.
Mische: You could probably call the station security. They might know.
Joshua: All right. Is there any way you can—72 hours does not seem like a workable thing. Is there any way we could—?
Mische: You can bribe them.
Joshua: Does he have money or does he have other tastes. Werner. This is what I've got to know.
Mische: Well … he was made Director because he's a little bit like Niska. Of course, he has no idea how bad Niska is. But money and power. Or feeling powerful. He knows better than to try to play with me. He just … threatens.

Joshua smiles a genuine smile of admiration at Mische.

Joshua: You've got talent.
Mische: (thoughtfully) You're old.
Joshua: Yeah, I know.
Mische: You must have been …. earlier.
Joshua: Yeah. Yeah, I was.
Mische: I'm sorry.
Joshua: Why? That I'm old?
Mische: Well, that … that you're like me.
Joshua: I've grown to adapt to it.

Behind him on the table, Rina stirs.

Rina: You know, Joshua. The Operative said that the Academy is no more but it reformed under something else. I think the name was Aegis. (at Mische) Is that where you are from?

Silence.

Joshua: While I would love to—honestly, while I would love to sit down with you and it's not very often I get to have conversations with Readers, but right now I'm worried about my crew. I will call station security.

Joshua quits med bay for the bridge. Rina follows, as does Mische. Joshua opens a channel to the station. Static hisses for an instant, followed by a click and a visual as the station picks up. Mische ducks out of sight as a man in a guard uniform stares back at us from the screen.

Station Security: Station Security.
Joshua: Yes. This is Joshua Drake, XO of the Exeter.
Station Security: Good. You're here. Hold on a moment.

We get the station's logo on screen as we're put on hold. Then the visual flickers back on to show us a pudgy-faced bureaucrat looking back at us.

Werner: You are from the Exeter.
Joshua: Yes.
Werner: I have your crew. They were involved in a conflict.
Joshua: I see. So, next step is to get them back on board the ship.
Werner: Yes. We will have a hearing, examine evidence, interrogate the witnesses.
Joshua: How much of a conflict was this, sir?
Werner: It was sufficient that a complaint was filed.
Joshua: I see.
Werner: And a counter-complaint.
Joshua: How long do you think this process will take.
Werner: Oh, it shouldn't be more than a week.
Joshua: I see.
Werner: It depends on how long it takes to get proper information. From the suspects.
Joshua: Is there any way to expedite that? I mean, 72 hours to get refueled is already hurting our schedule.
Werner: It is my belief, sir, that people must be in a proper state of mind in order to free their tongues. That state takes time and art to achieve.

He's not smiling as he says it and mindful of what Mische told him about Werner's proclivities, Joshua keeps a straight face.

Werner: Each person is different.
Joshua: Can we just pay a fine? It doesn't sound like—
Werner: This isn't about a fine. It's about maintaining order. Respect for authority.
Joshua: Perhaps we can meet to discuss this? I don't know any of the details but I'm sure if we were at fault, we will be happy to sign a statement to that effect and pay whatever fines are necessary. As a sign of respecting the order. Honestly, if you feel our crew is that much of a source of chaos—
Werner: It is possible your crew is entirely innocent. It would not help that to pay a fine if they are innocent.
Joshua: That is true.
Werner: We must determine if they are innocent or if they are guilty.
Joshua: Can I meet with them?
Werner: I will consider it.
Joshua: If there is to be a trial, don't they deserve representation.
Werner: That is not how we do it on the station.
Joshua: Can you explain to me exactly how you do it on the station?
Werner: We are not the government.
Joshua: I understand that. That's why I am trying to get a feel for—
Werner: This is a privately held station.
Joshua: And that's fine. You said there was going to be a trial or hearing, and I assume there's going to be representation at the trial or hearing. But if there is not, please inform me as to what the details would be.
Werner: They will be interrogated.
Joshua: Okay.
Werner: When the truth is ascertained, the parties—if any—will be punished and the others will be set free.
Joshua: I see. And what sort of punishments would this sort of conflict require? It wasn't made clear to me, since this is not about fines but about order. What sort of punishments are we talking, here?
Werner: We are most severe in our punishments.
Joshua: Most severe in your punishments. So, that's like a … a week in jail? Two weeks in jail or something?
Werner: Sufficient amount to deter future—
Joshua: Sufficient amount of what? Jail time?
Werner: Punishment.
Joshua: I see.

He does. Prisoners are completely at the mercy of a man who has a reputation for torture. What the man says next clinches it.

Werner: It may involve … physical hardship.
Joshua: Okay. Thank you for keeping me informed. You will be in touch with details on when I need to show up for this hearing or trial or if I can see them beforehand?
Werner: Yes, I will contact you when they are ready for … (trails off)
Joshua: (pleasantly) Thank you.

The screen goes blank as Werner cuts the channel and Joshua comments to the air of the bridge.

Joshua:(with feeling) What a psychopath.
Rina: So. Jailbreak?

Back at the jail in question … Nika, Arden, Beglan, and Kiera are in the middle of three plexi cells. Lt. Jensen and his wingman are in the cell at one end of the line and the cell nearest the elevator and only visible means of escape is empty. Looking at their fellow captives through the plexi, Nika notices that the Feds look … scared.

Whoa. Now that's a sight you don't see every day: Feds looking scared. Just what the hell kind of place is this, anyway?

There are holes drilled through the plexi separating the crew's cell from the Feds'. Nika raps on it to get their attention. They look up. One of them, Lt. Jensen, goes furtively to the wall and asks quietly:

Jensen: What did you guys say we did?
Arden: Nothing.
Jensen: This is not going to be good for either one of us. We should make up something and blame someone.
Nika: Why … ? Let me rephrase myself on this one—
Jensen: You don't want them to ask you any questions.
Kiera: Why? We'd just say it was just a misunderstanding.
Nika: (nods) That.
Jensen: Because a complaint was filed.

The crew looks at each other, baffled. Kiera gets it first. Her eyes widen at Arden.

Arden: Actually I hadn't filed a complaint. I said I would file a complaint. That's two different things. I did not file a complaint yet.
Kiera: Okay. Did you guys file a complaint?
Jensen: After we were told a complaint was filed, we counter-filed.
Nika: Oh, good grief. You're so gullible. (sighs) So what did you say that we did? And what are the consequences on this station for such activitieS?

The other Fed speaks up.

Fed:' We heard—we haven't seen, maybe it's just a rumor, but we've heard they've tortured people.
Nika: Oh, brilliant. And you thought it was a good idea to start messin' with people who've docked?
Jensen: We're not going down alone.
Nika: Yeah, so you thought it would be a good idea to start shit in the bar? Really?
Fed:' Well, you guys are … killin' our brothers out there.
Nika: Yeah, and …? …. (gets a grip) …. Ohhhh
Arden: (slowly) We're a supply ship. We don't do that.
Fed:' Supplying people who are killing our brothers.
Nika: So? You ran around and killed mine. So, I—
Fed:' Fine. That's what we do.
Nika: But I have no interest in killin' you. (a beat) I might after we're done with this, but we'll see about that.
Arden: No you can't. This is about figuring out what we're going to do to get out of this. If anything.
Kiera: Yeah.
Arden: I think they're just trying to keep us here.
Jensen: If we just blame it on one person … then that usually solves it.
Arden: Are you volunteering.
Jensen: No.
Arden: Okay.
Jensen: But maybe one of you guys—
Arden: No.
Nika: Considerin' y'all started it, I'm thinkin' if someone's gonna volunteer to get their butts in a sling, it'd be one'a y'all.
Jensen: No, We don't think we started it.
Nika: Really.
Kiera: I don't remember inviting you on that elevator. I think we said "Let's get off".
Jensen: But if we—I mean if we end up having a different story, then … we're all gonna go down.
Nika: (drawling) Well, I guess we're all goin' down, ain't we?
Kiera: Yep.
Arden: If we tell the truth, we won't have a different story.
Nika: Yeah, but they don't want to tell the truth because it shows them in a bad light. Because they're the ones who started it.
Kiera: Right.
Arden: But they really didn't start anything.

The women stare at him.

Arden: No one threw a punch.
Nika: By manhandling you into the elevator, they did in fact physically start it.
Arden: Did they manhandle me into the elevator?
Beglan:' Well, they did try to push past you.
Kiera: Technically I have the first complaint. They started grabbin' me. But I'm not gonna mention that.
Jensen: That's smart.
Kiera: Yeah, cuz that's gonna make you guys seem just like the cads you are.
Arden: (agreeing) Slime.
Jensen: We're just hoping that the Captain is going to intervene on our behalf. That might work.
Kiera: It would be nice if he intervened on our behalf, too, considering it's his fault, too. Did he not tell you people to behave?
Nika: Because clearly he does not have control over his own crew because y'all can't behave yourselves on neutral territory.
Jensen: You might try telling him that. He might be swayed by that argument.
Arden: Yeah, we tried that. It didn't work.
Jensen: Maybe we could just … blow this place up. That's gotta mean something, right?
Kiera: Yeah … I'm sure blowing the space station up of a powerful mob person would cause no repercussions.
Nika: I was thinkin' along the lines of "Yeah, I'm sure blowing up the only space station between Kalidasa and Georgia makes any kind of sense whatsoever."
Kiera: Especially the only refueling station between here and Kalidasa. That's okay then.
Nika: Yep. I can see where this is gonna go and I'm thinkin' it's useless havin' this conversation.
Kiera: Yeah.

Werner returns at this point. He has a guard with him. He looks at the prisoners for a beat and then goes to the Feds' cell.

Werner: Him. (points at Jensen's wingman)
Wingman: No …
Arden: Just tell the truth, dude.

Wingman is very nervous and refuses to move. The guard with Werner holds up a taser and sparks it for emphasis. Wingman wilts, the cell door opens, and the guard marches the Fed off. Werner says in parting:

Werner: I'll be back for all of you. Don't worry.
Kiera: Oh, I wasn't.
Arden: We'll miss you.

The crew watches as Werner, the guard, and Wingman go down the corridor and into a room. And the screaming starts shortly thereafter. Arden goes over to Nika and Kiera and keeps his voice down.

Arden: I'll tell you what. I'll throw myself on the electric prod if you take out Werner and his goon.
Nika: If you throw yourself on the prod, you're throwing yourself on the goon, so that leaves just Werner to take out.
Arden: Well I won't be able to do anything because I'll be electrified into petrification.
Kiera: Or your heart will stop so …
Arden: In any case, when they come back. Does that sound like a workable plan?

Well, that would work if there were only Werner and the one guard to contend with. The crew does a head count. There's four of the crew: Nika, Kiera, Beglan, and Arden. Well, there's Jensen's wingman but it's doubtful he'd help. So … four people against how many guards? The one with Werner and perhaps the one at the guard station, assuming it's not the same man with Werner. Hmm.

Arden: Of course, they could have a listening device in the cell.
Kiera: I'm just worried about the guards we're not seeing.
Nika: Yeah, that.
Arden: No plan survives first contact with the enemy.
Kiera: That's true. I say we just wing it.
Nika: (grim) Sure.

Back on Exeter's bridge, a plan starts taking shape.

Joshua: (to Rina) You work on the refueling. I'll work on getting into the brig.
Rina: (nods at Mische) Take her with you.
Joshua: I don't think I have any control over her. (a beat) You know where Arden keeps his Chempliant?
Rina: In the safe.
Joshua: Well, good.

Arden keeps it primed in a pen injector of the sort highly allergic people use to deliver their meds. Joshua sends Rina off to get those and turns to Mische.

Joshua: You said your name was Mische, right? Are you willing to help me get into the brig? I need to—I cannot in good conscience allow my crew to be tortured. I would like your help if you're willing to offer it but I will take whatever you're willing to give. (earcomms Rina) Could you also get me a couple of stim patches please? (to Mische) Is there a back way I can get into the brig? Vents? Something I can use?
Mische: Brigs are designed to prevent that sort of thing.
Joshua: Yeah, I know. It being a brig and all. But anything I can do to do the maximum amount of avoidance to get there. I'm not expecting to avoid combat altogether but if I can avoid having to deal with people until I got there … I don't know if there's multiple guards there.
Mische: (quietly) Yeah. There's multiple guards there but ….(thinks)
Rina: Then you might need more patches.
Joshua: Unfortunately both of my doctors are currently in the brig, making it impossible for me to play Borrower. So … (scrubs face) … Unless I surgically alter myself and that never goes well.

He sighs and looks at his wife.

Joshua: If you've got any ideas, rather than like a semi-direct sneak attack assault on the brig, I'm happy to hear it.

He goes over the options. He can't give up the cargo. Pescaline D is needed by the thousands on Regina suffering from Bowden's Disease. They've gone without it for weeks now and the suffering is great. He can't fake the cargo well enough to turn over a fake shipment. Both those factors flat out eliminates us giving over any form of cargo.

Joshua: We don't have the credits to bribe Werner unless he's a cheap bribe.
Rina: Maybe he just needs a cheap date.
Mische: (very quietly) She could probably make a bomb. I could get into the air vents. If you were … in the jail, it might be possible to take advantage of an opportunity.
Joshua: Give myself up in order to start a fight in order to … ? Okay. I think that's not a bad idea.
Rina: Incendiary, Smoke, or Stun? What kind do you need?
Joshua: Explosive.
Mische: I think explosive. It might knock out power in that area and that should make the cells easier to get out of.
Rina: That was my next question. What if we just cut the power? No grenades needed. Use stun grenade instead to take care of the people on the inside and I cut the power from the outside.
Mische: It's not so easy to cut the power.
Rina: All right, then. Grenade it is.

Rina turns to get those grenades and Joshua grabs her hand.

Joshua: Rina. Rina, stay with me. We still have to fuel up. We're gonna have to fuel up cuz it doesn't do us any good to escape from prison and go to our ship, and then get blown apart.
Mische: If they can survive long enough, he will probably refuel your ship before then.

Before they die from torture, she means. Screw that noise, no.

Joshua: Oh yeah. That's exactly what I'm looking forward to. Getting my crew tortured for two straight days. Can we at least think that it's possible to get ourselves refueled, to sneak it or do whatever it's gonna take? See if it's possible and if it's not possible, then … (to self) I have to think about other options.
Mische: You might be able to bribe someone on the staff.
Joshua: Now that, we might be able to do.
Mische: You're already coupled. It should just be a matter of flipping a few switches. But it will be noticeable to the administrative staff.
Joshua: No, I've got a better idea. We got enough med supplies, I think we can bribe someone administratively. It wouldn't be enough to bribe Werner but a decent chunk of stuff from the cabinets can be used to bribe someone to refuel us. But the timing has to be perfect because we have to start refueling as the bomb goes off. Because the people in administration are hopefully busy worried about putting the power back on so they can deal with chaos. By the time they figure it all out, we'll be refueled and out of here.
Rina: So we'll need a timer on the bomb.
Joshua: Yes, we'll a timer on the bomb. That will be good.
Rina: We'll need …. something to carry the drugs in, we need someone to deliver the drugs, someone glib enough to convince them to take the drugs …
Joshua: I'll deliver the drugs. I've got no issues delivering the drugs.
Rina: Then that must mean I'm going into the brig.
Joshua: No, no, we don't need to—
Rina: Fine.
Joshua: We don’t have to bribe them right as I break into the brig. No we can bribe them like, "Hey when we send you the wave, you flip the switch and start fueling us." And the thing of it is, I can say we're anxious to get going because we've got people waiting on us and we didn't expect to have to wait 72 hours and hey, if you wouldn't mind flipping the switch a little early for us, we'll let you know, here's some things to make it worth your while, since I know you're going off the map a little bit with this … That sort of thing. And they'll flip the switches when we send them the signal and we'll send them the signal just before the timer on the bomb supposed to go off.
Rina: How fast does the refueling take?

Do we really want to pull away from the gas pump with the hose still attached to our gas tank? Spilling fuel! Oh my gosh, a fiery trail to our engines. BOOM! Of course, the fuel in question is hydrogen, but still, hydrogen will burn explosively under the right conditions. Rina does the math in her head on the refuel: We'll only need to refuel halfway to get to Georgia. Once we get there, we won't have much left to go anywhere else, but the point is, we'll still get there. And we'll be away from the station. The speed of refueling, however, depends on how fast the pumps are.

Joshua: So if it takes a minimum of an hour and a half to refuel and we have to bribe someone to do it, we have to find a way to make it not-noticeable for that hour and a half. The question is whether Admin boy # 5 can do that. We don't know and to be honest, when the Director—let alone the guy who owns the station—is a certifiable psychopath, you gotta wonder if the administrative staff might be somewhat concerned about breaking the rules. But I don't have any other plan, so this is as good as it gets. At least for the moment, so we can start with that. So … Work on the bomb?
Rina: I'll work on the bomb.
Joshua: I'll gather some drugs.

Rina knows that the bomb has to be small enough to fit in an atmo vent yet still be big and strong enough to pierce the metal of the vent and cut through the power trunk line on the other side of it. So, she'll need a frag grenade and some explosive force behind it. Meanwhile, Joshua gathers what drugs he thinks would be good enough for a bribe.

In the brig, Nika takes stock of the screaming from down the hall and murmurs to the others:

Nika: Okay. He's been screaming long enough. They're not even asking him any questions.
Kiera: I didn't even know if they started asking him questions. I figured they're just getting their jollies. You know, the first ten minutes of just the perfunctory. Just to whet their appetite. I personally can't decide if they just started early.
Nika: (grim) There is no way they're asking him anything.

The screaming stops. Two guards appear from down the hallway, dragging Wingman between them. He's wrung out, dishrag limp. The guards throw him back into his cell and Jensen rushes over to him and turns him over. We can all see his clothing is torn in places and there are marks on his body. They aren't cuts. They're more like burns. As if someone's put red hot clips on his skin … or maybe electrified metal. The man has clearly been tortured.

Arden: (through the plexi) How is he?
Jensen: He doesn't look great.
Arden: I wish I could get over there.

Kiera calls out to the guards.

Kiera: He looks like he needs medical help. Y'all wanna let one of the doctors look at him, since you got two of them locked in here?

One of the guards turns on his way out.

Guard: You want to be in there with him? You're not gonna kill him are you?

Kiera is about to speak when Nika overrides her and the guard walks on.

Nika: Kiera. Kiera. (shakes head) No.
Kiera: All right. Just tryin' to do the nice thing. He don't look too good.
Nika: (softly) I know.
Arden: Really? You don't want either one of us to go over there?
Nika: (still soft) No.
Arden: Okay. I disagree.

Nika waits until the guards are out of earshot before continuing.

Nika: I don't want any of you to go over there because I think the two of you together are going to be a formidable force enough to get all of us out. But I am not going to let them torture the rest of you.
Arden: Okay.
Nika: And I can't have you and Kiera split up.
Arden: What I see happening when they come back for one of us is they're going to pick me, in which case, that's great. Or they're going to pick one of you, in which case I'm going object and try to do the chivalrous thing. Say "No, no, take me instead", so I need to get close to the guard at the door. That's my plan. Just so you know.
Nika: (evenly) Again, if we split us up—
Arden: I understand. I'm changing the subject. When they come back, that's what my plan is.
Nika: (short) Yeah.
Kiera: All right. We'll wait then.
Arden: I just didn't want anybody surprised when I did it.
Nika: Yeah, no. We're gonna be all-in. Either way, I'm not going to let them take the lot of you.
Arden: They can't torture you if you're unconscious.
Nika: What?
Arden: They can't torture you if you're unconscious.
Nika: So you're gonna knock me out?
Arden: No. But they're not taking me without a fight.

Meanwhile, Beglan is sitting off to the side, thinking his thoughts and hopefully praying for us all. He keeps quiet on what he's thinking and praying and only he and God know for sure.

Nika: The point is, I don't want them torturing either of the doctors in any case and I certainly don't want them torturing Beggar, who certainly has never been in the middle of anything. So that leaves me. And I trust the two of you to be able to put me back together if necessary.
Arden: If things work the way I hope they would, there won't be anybody being tortured.
Nika: Let's … hope.
