Firefly Prime: Advancement
This game will be broken up into Episodes with each episode focusing on a specific job that unfolds in a series of scenes that roughly map to an arc of (usually) five acts. Characters receive 2 xp for each job they complete (successfully or otherwise).
Experience can be spent to advance characters as follows:
Tier 0[edit]
Sometimes the game experience doesn't quite match with chargen expectations. Tier 0 adjustments exist specifically to deal with those sorts of tweaks and changes without leveling an xp tax for the privilege. Tier 0 adjustments are only available during and immediately following a character's first episode. Not all Tier 0 changes are subsequently available via regular xp spends.
- Change how an Attribute couplet is defined: 0 Experience during or immediately following character's first episode Starting Maximums must be observed.
- Swap out a current Role ranking for another: 0 Experience during or immediately following character's first episode
- Change a Knack: 0 Experience during or immediately following character's first episode.
- Change a Signature Asset: 0 Experience during or immediately following character's first episode.
- Swap out one Relationship rating for another. 0 Experience during or immediately following character's first episode
- Swap out a Distinction: 0 Experience during or immediately following character's first episode. If the distinction had an active SFX, activate new SFX appropriate to the new Distinction.
- Swap out a Distinction SFX: 0 Experience during or immediately following character's first episode. May not swap out Hinder
Tier 1[edit]
- Change a Knack: 1 Experience
- Change a Distinction: 1 Experience If the distinction had active SFX, activate new SFX appropriate to the new Distinction. There should always be good fictional support to change a distinction outside of Tier 0 changes.
- Change a Distinction SFX: 1 Experience May not swap out Hinder
- Swap out one Signature Asset SFX for another: 1 Experience
- Swap out one Relationship rating for another. 1 Experience
- Add a new Knack to a or higher Role: 1 Experience
- Add a new Signature Asset: 1 Experience
Tier 2[edit]
- Step up a Signature Asset to 2 Experience
- Step up a Knack by one die type: 2 Experience Knacks may not be stepped up higher than the Role they are attached to.
- Step up a Relationship die by one step: 2 Experience Only one (1) Relationship may be ranked at Relationships may not be stepped up beyond
Tier 3[edit]
- Add a Distinction SFX: 3 Experience Distinctions may have no more than three (3) SFX apiece, including Hinder
- Add a Signature Asset SFX: 3 Experience Signature Assets may have a max of one (1) SFX. Signature Assets may have a max of two (2).
Custom SFX guidelines may be found in the Prime handbook on pages 61-63 (excepting limits). Do not use the guidelines for distinctions found on pages 191-213.
Tier 4[edit]
- Step up a or higher Role by one die step: 4 Experience No Role may be stepped up beyond and Roles may not be advanced.
- Move one (1) Attribute couplet one step closer to Balanced or one step closer to Extreme: 4 Experience
