Male Half-Orc Rogue4/Fighter4

The self-titled "Public Relations Officer" of the Forgotten Freedom, Doog grew up in the lower levels of Sharn as a petty thug. Later in life, he joined the crew of the Forgotten Freedom and, well, remained a petty thug. Possessing a strength and intimidating presence matched only by his ego, Doog serves as the muscle behind many of the Captain's schemes.

Doog likes to claim that his complicated last name means something akin to "Genitals to make gods envious", though anyone with any knowledge of Orcish knows that to be utter bunk, actually meaning something more like "Built like a brick privy, smells like one too". Regardless, Doog clings furiously to his claim and supposed "reputation" as being a great lover of women of all shapes and sizes ("as long as they ain't gnome- or halfling-sized, 'cause they couldn't take it anyway, or they're hairer than me, 'cause that's just wrong"). No member of the crew can actually attest to witnessing any of Doog's many crude sexual innuendos or pick-up lines actually succeeding with anyone short of a prostitute, but fortunately for Doog's ego none of them care to risk the thrashing they'd get from him if they pointed that out.

Aside from sleeping with willing women (who are typically paid), Doog also takes pleasure in messing with new recruits and other naive crewmen, trying to make them feel as uncomfortable or concerned for their well-being as possible. If there's a rule regarding recruits or the warforged and what can be said to them, it was probably formed specifically for Doog.

Doog and the majority of the crew don't particularly get along. He views Marish as somewhat disturbing ("I ain't knockin' boots with nobody hairier than me"), and Ketler with his Jaela obsession as rather pathetic. Doog sees the warforged (who he only ever refers to as "the warforged") as little more than a running joke. He has great fun convincing the warforged that ridiculous statements are actually true, which is actually rather easy, since Stupid believes everything Doog says to him to be the equivalent of holy truth.

Doog does as the captain asks only when he feels like it, responding generally with an eloquent "Sez you" rather than the desired "Yes, sir!" Fortunately for all, the captain has finally clued in and only asks Doog to do things involving intimidating and/or hurting people, which the half-orc enjoys. The main reason Doog hasn't tried to mutiny is that he is bright enough to realize that running a ship is a lot of work, and he sure as hell doesn't want to do it. This doesn't stop him from wanting his way at all times, however, though he's generally too lazy to follow up on any threats made. The "Chain of Command" as he calls it is a crude iron chain he threatens to beat lesser crewmen with until they do as he says, and is only ever seen when the captain isn't around. His preferred weapon is a magical greatclub that is little more than a studded steel rod more than a metre long. He calls it "Genevieve" and treasures it.

While flying, Doog is content to laze about the ship and pick on the warforged for the most part, since he has little in the way of skills that can contribute to the actual operation or maintenance of an airship.

Skills: Bluff, Gather Information, Lay Women (or so he claims), Intimidate, and Hurt People When Intimidation Isn't Enough

Some Random Facts[edit]

  • Half-Orc from the Eldeen Reaches.
  • Is the youngest of seven pups.
  • Comes from a family of Gatekeepers.
  • Is a former slave of House Thurask.
  • Is an atheist and thinks the gods were made up by corrupt priests. This in spite of encountering numerous hyperdimensional beings.
  • Is so dense that all psionic influence from Quori to Masters of the Art are unable to influence him.
  • Has a personality identical to Jayne from Firefly.
  • Owes Michael a 'life debt' for getting him out of slavery.
  • It is implied that Doog's trumped-up sexuality may not be the result of natural inclinations and his feelings veer towards Michael (who is unaware of this affection).
  • Doog has a heavy crossbow he calls Veera that shoots bolts of pure magical force that are quite powerful.
  • Doog is simultaneously terrified of Druids as well as disdainful of them due to his background.
  • Doog is one of the least loyal of the crew to Jarlot and has tried to betray the ship to the authorities, jump ship, rob it, and mutiny on several occasions.
  • Is quite human in appearence save his tusk-like underbite and batlike ears.

I wrote Dooj grew up in Sharn, but being born in the Eldeen Reaches works too. Probably born a Reacher, enslaved, escaped with Michael to Sharn, thugged around for a while, then tried to rob the FF. That sounds about right.

Dooj's preferred weapon is his greatclub Genevieve, actually, unless someone's given him that crossbow of magic missiles and I just didn't read it...

I do like the part about he and Michael initially joining the Forgotten Freedom to rob it, though.
