Kanatash

"You call me mad, but say rather that I understand. What do I understand you ask? You shall see soon enough..."

Kanatash is one of the original crew members of the Forgotten Freedom. He is an extremely talented Kalashtar psion specializing in the discipline of pychoportation as well as a Psion Uncarnate. Thanks to his Psion Uncarnate levels, he is permanently incorporeal. He was originally a prodigal hunter of the inspired from Adar of paladin-like purity. To these ends he made it his goal to find a way to transport himself directly to Dal Quor to strike more direct blows against the Quori. Unfortunately, when he attempted the trip, his calculations were slightly off and he instead ended up in Xoriat. He spent the next 5000 years as a plaything of the Daelkyr, which, needless to say, drove him completely insane. In the end, the Daelkyr bound his consciousness to the fabric of Xoriat itself and sent forth a projection of him to Eberron. Once there Kanatash was drawn to the Forgotten Freedom like a moth to a flame as it is the greatest nexus of madness outside of Xoriat.

When Kanatash first arrived on the Freedom, he was simply a really creepy, gibbering lunatic who wandered the deck and no one could get rid of. Over time, however, he has changed considerably. Long-term exposure to the crew's minds has driven him to a state which he terms "Perfect Madness", in which he seems almost normal at times while still being completely irrational and unpredictable. Kanatash's only real goal in life is to completely destroy reality so he can hear the sound it makes when it snaps. However, he is in no hurry to do so, he actually plans to, in his words, "give it another few million years to mature", so that he can "savor the moment". To pass the time while he waits for reality to crumble, Kanatash performs numerous horrific "experiments" on the redshirts designed to twist and break their minds and bodies. He also enjoys playing head games with the other crewmembers when he thinks he can get away with it. He is also a main conspirator in Kithle and Sa'vor's planned Illithid Empire.

In regards to the rest of the crew Kanatash is feared or at least disliked by most for generally being really creepy and committing acts which have a negative effect on the general sanity of the crew. There also seems to be a deep, underlying animosity between the captain and Kanatash, most likely stemming from the time Kanatash drove the captain insane. Sa'vor and Kithle on the other hand both generally adopt a "don's screw with my plans and I won't screw with yours," attitude around Kanatash. In fact the only crew who seem to be on good terms with Kanatash are Volrath, Terra, and Carlot. Kanatash is a good friend of Volrath's Daelkyr father and generally refers to him as a nephew despite the lack of any actual blood relation. This kinship with Volrath extends to a certain extent to Terra as well. However the individual who Kanatash has the best relation with is Caralot. After being originally attracted by Caralot's experiments, which in their effects on the victims mirrored his own, Kanatash struck up an intimate relationship with her. This relationship has been a cause for great mental trauma among the crew and their "photo album" has become more feared than liquid keelhauling.

Other Facts

- He has a pathological hatred of hippies for as of yet unrevealed reasons.

- He actively serves the Daelkyr or "deranged lords" but at this point has risen through their ranks to the point where he has authority over the majority of the "lesser" Daelkyr lords.

- Refers to Volrath as his Nephew although there is no relation. However he is on good terms with Volrath's father.

- Spends a lot of his time doing experiments on redshirts or any other fodder he can get his hands on and then breaks their minds and mutates their bodies. Most of these test subjects do not survive and those that do are hunted down and killed by the crew because quote, "even we're not cruel enough to let those things live, it's mercy killing."

- Once had a duplicate that was destroyed after it was corrupted by Kelter's dimensional tracievers which turned him into Agent Smith from the Matrix. Wether he has since created a new duplicate is unknown.

- Is fully aware that he is a fictional character that was created by Crystalforged and is a part of an internet thread.

- Has completely and thoroughly broken the fourth wall and has taken to conversing with his creator on occasion.

- Temporarily became an entity from beyond non-existance and even posted several times on the thread but was blackmailed by his creator to return to his previous state. Claims however that he could reach the state of entity-hood again at least for a short while.

- Fears only one thing other than Crystal, Furries and furry sex. In other words Marish is his worst nightmare.

Kanatash's original write-up Kanatash (Kalashtar Nomad 5/ Psion Uncarnate 10)

Kanatash was once a prodigal psion hailing from Adar who had an obsession with discovering new forms of transportation, particularly across planar boundaries. His ultimate goal was to discover a method to open a gateway to Dal Quor so the Kalashtar could mount surgical strikes against dormant, physical forms of the Quori who are projecting themselves to Eberron.

Unfortunately when he was finally discovered a method to fulfill his dream he made a miscalculation. Instead of Dal Quor, he found himself stranded and adrift in Xoriat instead. No one knows how he escaped Xoriat since by the time he left had had completely lost his mind and for reasons beyond anyone when he finally returned to Eberron he began relentlessly tracking down the Forgotten Freedom. Those who have attempted to read his mind have ended up vegtables, their minds completly, and premanently burned out.

The little knowledge the crew has of Kanatash comes from a journal he dropped on the deck when first arrived. It contains a history of his research into planar travel and the final entry consists of panicked ramblings apparently written imediately after he arrived in Xoriat. This entry contains gruesome details about how he felt the alien mentalities of the plane slowly breaking down the boundries of his sanity and reconstructing his mind into something beyond comprehension. The entry ends saying he is begining to understand... What he understands is unclear because the enry is obscured with acid green slime that cannot be removed by any means.

Kanatash is less of a crew member that he is an unwelcome stowaway. He resists any attempts by the crew to get rid of him and somehow always finds a way back to them. He spends most of his time floating incorporeally floating around the deck following a random crew member and gibbering indecipherably (he is in fact speaking backwards in Quori but since no one on the crew knows Quori they have no idea). If foes appear to attack the crew he will unleash his impressive repertoire of psionic powers against them and he is largely responsible for the ship and crew still being alive and in one piece considering the number of enemies they have made.

Kanatash is generally considered extremely creepy by the rest of the crew due to his tendency to begin screaming randomly about the spiders in his brain, to float through crew members, and the staring eyeball in the back of his hand that can sometimes be glimpsed out of the corner of your eye. However the crew has learned to tolerate him, more because of their inability to get rid of him than because of the numerous times he has saved their rears. On Kanatash’s part he seems not to care what the crew thinks of him.

Kanatash has been know to sing on occasion. Unfortunately it is completely unknown what kind of singer he is or what he actually sings. The only individual to ever hear Kanatash sing became completely unresponsive and spent the days immediately following slowly tearing away the flesh surrounding his ears with his bare hand until he had exposed his eardrums. He then punctured his eardrums and removed the three small bones within a person's ears which he proceeded to grind into powder and scatter to the winds. He then spent the next several months slowly scratching a hole in his skull with his fingernails until he had exposed his brain. He then carefully removed the area of his brain that focused on his auditory senses which he proceeded to set on fire before finally falling dead from massive trauma to the brain.

Needless to say no one asked for an encore...
