Kirr Brenna[edit]

  • Career: Colonist
  • Description: Black human, toned but not overly musclebound. Somewhat agile, but his main weapon is his mind. Tends to dress in plain gear so as not to attract too much attention.
  • Background: Ex-Corporate Operator

Kirr worked for Jivu Inc as a shadow researcher. His job entailed finding information on rival corporate officers, usually to blackmail them, set them up for extraction, or find fatal flaws in their backgrounds that could be used to destroy their lives. It is only in the last few months that Kirr's conscience has developed, and he has come to recognise the damage he has done to a lot of people. When he was tasked by Mirza Jerass (who had been his direct boss, and who had assumed Kirr's loyalty, which up to now had gone unquestioned) to research her sister, Sikka, he became suspicious - he was asked to discover information about her in the same way that extractions would normally take place, which was unfathomable, since Sikka was already part of the family. When he saw Mirza in conference with a man he knew to be an assassin of the top grade, he put two and two together, and managed to warn Sikka of the impending attack.

Helping Sikka escape would mean that his own life was in danger too - the only people to know of the attempt were Mirza, the assassin, and Kirr. Kirr had no option but to join Sikka on the run, since he knew that Mirza is a vengeful woman who would not take kindly to such betrayal. With time, Kirr has come to care deeply for Sikka, and they have entered into a relationship. He knows that Sikka burns with vengeance, and will support her in any way he can, though secretly he would prefer that they find some far haven and live out their lives together in peace.

People and Organisations of interest:

Mirza Jerass: Kirr's direct employer, who he has betrayed. Sikka Jerass: Current lover, Mirza's target who he warned, and who he is on the run with. Jivu Inc.: Previous employer, now controlled by Mirza Jerass. Handar Tenqil: A top grade assassin hired by Mirza to kill Sikka.

  • Motivation: The Weak / Charity.

Kirr's conscience has gone into overdrive recently. He hates that he has been responsible for innocent people losing their jobs and livelihoods due to his research, and when he discovered the plans that Sikka's sister had for her, he drew the line - innocent bloodshed is something he could not be able to live with.

  • Obligation: Oath 10 / Betrayal 10

Kirr has sworn to atone for his past, and will not let an innocent suffer if he is able. He doesn't necessarily feel bad about betraying Mirza - she has shown her true colours, and Kirr will not sail under them - but he is now in hiding because of that betrayal. As much as Mirza wishes to kill Sikka, she is now out of the picture and Mirza rules the roost, but her thirst for vengeance at Kirr's betrayal shows no sign of abating any time soon.

Chargen Questions[edit]

• Does your character ever miss the life he left behind?

Not really - his conscience was affecting his ability to do his job, and he can't see returning to that line of work.

• Did you have feelings for Sikka before you were surviving on the run together?

No, he'd known her for quite a while - they were roughly the same age, and the corp had been his home for a long time, but he'd never really considered her as a love interest - their social/corporate stations put them too far removed for that.

• Is there anyone you left behind? Family, or a close friend?

Kirr does worry about the family he left behind, especially since Mirza is vindictive. In his previous line of work, Kirr didn't make too many friends - people who knew what he did were always a little apprehensive, in case he was getting close to them purely to research them. That tends to put a dmaper on relationships.

• Who are you still in contact with at Jivu, Inc.? Does Sikka know?

Berra Hanku, a janitor (and thus probably the only person who didn't worry that Kirr was after info on them to use against them). We used to play a game; it started when Kirr lost a datachip, which Berra (being a thorough cleaner) found after it had rolled under a desk behind a power coupling stack. Kirr would hide it in a different place in his office each day; each morning it would be sitting in the middle of his desk. Since no-one watches the janitor, Berra has managed to keep tabs on what's going on at Jivu. Sikka doesn't know - Kirr wants them to settle down somewhere and forget their old lives, and fears that revealing that he knows what's occurring back at Jivu might just infuriate her and entice her to go back to get her revenge.

Peace and quiet, in some backwater, with Sikka.

• Your professional life has always flirted with the shadows. What do you love about that world?

The quirks that you can dig up on a person; finding someone's deepest secrets is also exhilarating; working in the shadows, unseen, controlling others' destiny. His conscience fights against that now, mostly, but it still gives him a rush thinking about it.
