The small town of Crescent is in the region of Caladorn in the campaign setting of Meamnar. Crescent is perched upon a highpoint of the long ridge that separates the Siblaran Plateau to the east from the Caladorn Forest to the west. As its name implies, the town is indeed crescent-shaped, and enjoys a unique vantage point over the forest.

Who Rules[edit]

When Crescent was founded, a three-member Council of Elders was created to govern the settlement. Membership in this Council is by appointment, with the unanimous vote of the other Council members being the only requirement. Typically, a member will nominate his or her successor, who is then approved by the other two members.

Immediately after its inception, the Council chose to elect a Mayor to handle daily affairs. Over the years, the Mayor's autonomy fluctuates, depending mostly on the interest one Council member or another might have on issues of the day.

The current members of the Council are X, Y, and Z.

Tarkin, a Ranger of unknown origins, was elected by the Council in 1419 NR, and has served as the town's mayor ever since. Tarkin is a lycanthrope - a werebear - a fact which was concealed from the populace until the events of 1427.

Who Really Rules[edit]

Since the attempt on his life in 1427, Tarkin has enjoyed unprecedented latitude with regards to how the town is run. The Council continues to meet regularly, but is much less interested in day-to-day affairs.

Population[edit]

1,270 (humans x%, dwarves x%, elves x%, half-elves x%, halflings x%, gnomes x%, half-orcs x%)

Major Products[edit]

Timber from the Caladorn Forest accounts for the bulk of the town's exports.

Armed Forces[edit]

Crescent has a full-time guard of 12 warriors that typically stand watch along the palisade. Another part-time unit consisting of 10 men of various disciplines frequently patrols the closer portions of the forest. An additional 50 individuals are conscriptable in the event of an emergency. These forces are all commanded by Dorgan the Grim.

Notable Mages[edit]

Notable Clergy and Churches[edit]

  • The Church of the Crescent Sun is the only organized church in town. The faithful of Pelor are led by Brind the Paladin, an unorthodox hierarchy in place due to the events of 1427. Brind supervises a Level 2 Cleric, two Level 1 Clerics, and two Level 1 Paladins.

Notable Rogues' and Thieves' Guilds[edit]

Equipment Shops[edit]

Adventurers' Quarters[edit]

  • The Winking Dragon is the only inn in town. The name actually refers to the owner, Durl Halfaxe, a one-eyed, retired dwarven fighter.

Important Characters[edit]

Important Features[edit]

Crescent is surrounded by a wooden palisade, a 12' wall of timbers, each a foot thick. Eight feet from the ground, a three-foot wide walkway runs the entire length of the wall, and ladders provide access every 100' or so. The common folk are permitted on the western portion of the wall, which overlooks the forest, and are frequently found sightseeing there, especially at sunrise and sunset.

The ridge itself is roughly 150' in height, with only a slight slope to it. There is a narrow gap just south of the town, with a dirt path spilling forth from it that winds back and forth on itself twice before reaching the forest floor. This is the only passable route up or down the ridge for several miles in either direction.
