Predator Maneuvers

Each round the predator should write his maneuver down on a piece of paper and keep it secret.

All predator maneuvers are geared toward slowing down or catching the prey.

Box In[edit]

It takes skill to trap an opponent with minimal damage, but sometimes it's essential to use the kid gloves and take the prey intact. This requires a level of skill and panache most drivers simply do not possess, and is restricted to agents with the Daredevil class ability.

Lead

5 lengths or less.

Success

The predator wins the chase, forcing the prey into a corner from which there is nowhere to run.

Crowd[edit]

Crowding, or "tailgating," is getting right up into the prey's backside and trying to force him into a collision with the environment. Generally, this option is safer for the predator than ramming, but is less likely to work.

Lead

2 lengths or less.

Success

The predator wins the chase. If the predator's maneuver check exceeds the prey's by at least 5, the prey collides with an obstacle (a tree, storefront, or debris). The prey is assumed to have failed a crash check as described under Step 7, and the predator comes to a safe stop.

Cut Off[edit]

Generally without warning, the predator speeds up and pulls out in front of the prey, cutting him off. The predator's own vehicle becomes a barrier to stop the prey from escaping. Like most predator maneuvers, cutting someone off is invariably destructive.

Lead

0 lengths.

Speed

The chase speed is reduced by 25 MPH this round.

Success

The predator wins the chase, pulling in front of the prey and cutting him off, If the prey fails his maneuver check, he automatically collides with the predator's vehicle; no crash check is required. Damage is applied to both vehicles per the directions under Step 7. The predator may make a Jump check (leaping from a stationary vehicle) to avoid taking damage in the collision.

Gun It[edit]

Gun it is the basic predator maneuver, in which the predator attempts to catch up with the prey in a straightforward manner, without frills or significant chance of a mishap.

Lead

Any distance.

Speed

Increase the chase speed by 10 MPH this round.

Success

The lead is reduced by a number of lengths equal to the difference between maneuver checks.

Herd[edit]

Forcing the prey to make bad choices can be as effective as chasing him down. By keeping the pressure on and cutting off the prey's options, the predator uses strategy and brute force to drive the prey into dangerous situations.

Lead

10 lengths or less.

Success

The lead is reduced by 1 length and the prey is required to make a crash check with a DC increased by the difference between the maneuver checks. The predator is also required to make a crash check this round (but without the additional penalty).

Special

With a critical success or by beating the prey's maneuver check by 5 or more, the predator may choose to reduce both the predator and prey's crash check DCs by 5 to shift the terrain by one step at the end of the round (open or tight becomes close, and vice versa). Alternately, the predator may ignore the crash check and terrain shift entirely.

Jockey[edit]

By carefully matching the prey's movements, the predator can force the relative speeds of the two vehicles down to almost zero, stabilizing the chase so that others in the vehicle can attack.

Lead

10 lengths or less.

Success

The lead is reduced by I length and the driver and all passengers in the predator vehicle gain half the difference between the maneuver checks (rounded down) as a cooperation bonus to all their attack and skill rolls targeting the prey.

Ram (Finishing)[edit]

Ram is pretty straightforward: the predator speeds up and slams into the prey, forcing him off the road, into the ground, or onto the shore. It's dirty, but generally gets the job done a lot faster than Crowd.

Lead

5 lengths or less.

Success

The predator wins the chase, colliding with the prey. Both are assumed to have failed a crash check as described under Step 7. After the collision, both vehicles come to a halt.

Redline (Daredevil)[edit]

Redline is an advanced version of gun it, during which the predator suddenly accelerates to and remains at the vehicle's top speed. This causes incredible wear and tear on the vehicle as the engine literally burns up,Lead: Any distance.

Speed

Increase the chase speed by 20 MPH this round.

Success

The prey's lead is reduced by a number of lengths equal to twice the difference between maneuver checks. The predator's engine suffers 4 points of damage(see Step 6). Daredevil drivers are skilled at feathering the throttle, and their engines take only 2 points of damage from redline.

Shortcut[edit]

Shortcuts can be incredibly helpful in catching up with the prey, especially in close quarters, where the prey cannot see what the predator is doing. Unfortunately, this generally means that the predator has reduced his line of sight as well, which can result in a nasty spill.

Lead

Any distance.

Speed

The chase speed is reduced by 15 MPH this round.

Success

The lead is reduced by a number of lengths equal to the twice the difference between maneuver checks. The predator must make a crash check during Step 7.

“That’s Impossible!" (Daredevil Only, may be Finishing)[edit]

“That's Impossible!" allows you to choose any other predator maneuver and benefit from its effects without applying the modifiers from Table 7.1: Chase maneuvers. This is generally beneficial for the higher driver in the chase.

Lead

Per maneuver.

Success

Per maneuver.
