Vayla Asura[edit]

a character in the Star Trek: Mercury game

Once upon a time there were these aliens, remnants of a lost civilization. They'd nomad around and every now and then settle amongst more primitive species, setting themselves up as gods thanks to their superior technology. In Star Trek terms they'd have a few devices left on par with TNG-levels, most notably holodeck tech. So they'd chillax, being conquering gods and generally rather unpleasant about the whole thing.

Then one day a Kirk/Pike type came along and after about 30 minutes of screentime, gave them a good speech about the inherent dignity of all sentient beings, the human spirit, and the true meaning of Christmas. The aliens saw the errors of their way and promised to do better. The end.

Except not quite.

It is the alien's ancient custom to deliver a hostage to the one they make a treaty with. And one of them was more open to the idea of science and exploration anyway (and probably had the hots for the handsome Starfleet captain, because that's mandatory). And so she enrolled with Starfleet, a "goddess", reformed alien warlord, and princess to a lost dynasty. But to you she's just the chief science officer. No biggie.

Distinctions[edit]

(use as d8 or d4 with a plot point)

Ancient Alien Goddess[edit]

Vayla is much older than anyone else on the Mercury. She has seen many things and been to many places... and some civilizations might hold grudges.

Heir to a Throne[edit]

Vayla is highly educated in etiquette, culture, and the not-so-subtle art of despotism. Can she adapt to the chain of command?

Reformed Interstellar Warlord[edit]

Vayla has conquered worlds. That's a lot of misdeeds to atone for.
