The Great War of the Age of Sorrows[edit]

It is said that forty years ago, it happened. It wasn’t quick, but it was sudden and powerful. In mere months, the Realm had shattered, the Houses allying and attacking, chaos was covering the Blessed Isle. In the Thresholds, forces from the Underworld struck at several places long since thought safe. It looked bleak for Creation, Oblivion seemed so inevitable, but then a savior came, or at least that is what she was seen as at the start. The Ebon Empress appeared in the Realm, casting aside all opposition to her taking the Throne. Still the greatest amount of fear that the Ebon Empress could bring was upon the Underworld’s forces. Destroying everything before her, no Deathlord, no Abyssal could stand against her might, one by one they were destroyed and their Shadowlands were closed for all eternity. And when the Ebon Empress sealed them all in the Underworld she turned her sights to the rest of Creation. A splintered Creation was not one safe, and the great Massacres happened. Forces of various types attempted to dissuade her power, but each were devastated. Smoldering the lands of Lookshy lay, Thorns was cast into the Underworld, Paragon quickly surrendered its Perfect cowed into swearing his loyalty, many other places were destroyed or conquered and no one could stop her advance. The question on everyone’s lips as the Ebon Empresses black forces swept Creation, was, where are the golden and silver Anathema? There was no sign of them on the Empress’ side then where were they?

The reality of this was simple, something had assaulted Yu Shan, it is unknown who or what, but the Incarna are locked in the Pleasure Dome, the Sidereal Exalted are sworn to service to the Ebon Empress, and the gods are silent about it. Five Metal Cubes now adorn the Empress’ Chamber in the Ebon Imperial Spire, each one is a mystery to those who see them. The Empress calls them the spoils of the Great War that she won at the first few months.

The War has left its mark across Creation. Pillars of Ebon metal rises from Each Direction, while a large disc of ebon metal hovers near Mount Meru. Entire sections of fertile land is gone, now desert and wastelands, where warped creatures of darkness attack anyone and anything. And wilder stories are passed down. It is tragic that the reality of the war is hidden from everyone, but as long as people support the Ebon Empress people are safe, but is this safety a lie? Many don't think so, especially those who fled and founded the Village of Caradeen.
