Fame: All of the members of the Pegasus crew are famous for saving the world, of course, but Dr. Stone's miraculous survival coupled with his surprise return during a major media event made him stand out even among that elite group.

Conspiracy Theory Magnet: Most people believed the Pegasus crew when they confirmed Daniel's identity but there are some out there who think there might be more to the story, as the fact that the government hasn't gotten around to reinstating his security clearance demonstrates. Some people suspect he's been mentally compromised by unknown extraterrestrials who were attracted by the warpdrive and the real reason he survived was because they plucked him from it to use as their pawn. Others believe he's not himself at all, but an alien entity posing as him for some inscrutable purpose. And then there are a few whackos who believe he's the Antichrist or some other malign entity who adopted the identity of a world saving hero in order to bring about the End of Days.

Background: Dr. Daniel Stone was a brilliant and respected NASA scientist with a long and distinguished career when he first saw Helmar Fjallirsdottir's paper detailing the theoretical basis for "warp drive". He not only recognized it for the genius breakthrough in physics it was but realized that technology he had helped design for a cancelled project to develop an Einstein-Rosen Bridge Generator could potentially be repurposed to create hardware which applied Fjallirsdottir's theory. Lobbying his superiors, he managed to convince NASA to bring the prodigy onboard and fund a project to develop a working model of her Warp Drive. Besides Fjallirsdottir and himself, Stone recruited brilliant minds from both within NASA and without to help make the Warp Drive a reality.

After they had been working on the project for a while an astronomical discovery gave their efforts an immediate urgency. A rogue asteroid was spotted on a collision course with Earth and only a ship with a functional Warp Drive would have the speed and power necessary to have a chance of intercepting and diverting it in time. Frantically they raced to complete their work and they managed to succeed just in the nick of time. The first spaceship with Warp Drive in human history, The Pegasus, launched with the team onboard to rendezvous with the doomsday rock.

They were of course successful in their mission but it was not without complications. While the time was approaching to jettison the Drive so that its collapsing Warp field would divert the asteroid's trajectory they discovered a faulty component in the control mechanism had critically malfunctioned. They unfortunately did not have time to repair it before jettisoning, so someone had to stay with Drive and work on it while the rest of the Pegasus got clear. Being the oldest among a team which included young prodigies at the beginning of their life, Dr. Stone concluded it was obvious he should volunteer to be the one to stay and repair the Drive.

The last thing Daniel thought he would experience was a cascade of brilliant, multi-hued light as the Warp field collapsed and released its immense energies. The next thing he remembered experiencing was gasping for air in the vacuum of space, bewilderingly somehow still alive. Desperately needing to be somewhere with air, he suddenly found himself elsewhere. Somewhere in another solar system judging from the two suns in the sky. After taking the time to examine himself and discovering that not only was he alive but back in his thirties again, Dr. Stone concentrated on returning home.

Daniel appeared in his house, which he found had someone else's furniture and belongings. He went next door to a neighbor to ask what was going on and gave the man the shock of his life. Apparently much time had passed since the Warp Drive collapsed. Enough for the Pegasus to have returned to Earth without Warp Drive. Enough time for his crewmates to discover their new abilities. Enough time for a ceremony to be organized to honor them and memorialize him for saving the world.

It wasn't everyday you crash your own eulogy commemorating you for making "The Ultimate Sacrifice." It's even rarer for the occasion to be broadcast and streamed live to an audience of billions when you do it. It definitely was a memorable moment when Dr. Stone did so. But after security and the attendees calmed down Dr. Stone was able talk to the rest of the Pegasus Crew and convince them of his identity. They, in turn, confirmed his bona fides to everyone else. And so the event resumed, albeit with a few changes to the script.

In the days afterward, when asked by interviewers how he had managed to survive and why he was now younger, Dr. Stone could only plead ignorance. But he did eventually come up with a theory that he shared with the rest of the Pegasus crew and other friends and family. He believes the space-twisting nature of the Drive's discharge, coupled with the physics-breaking effects it propagated, transformed him into a hyperdimensional being who transcended the boundaries of the universe into higher realities. His flesh and blood body was just the portion of him that intersected with conventional Space-Time, and it was regressed back to his early thirties because that was when he first joined NASA after obtaining his doctorate and thus that version of him was a core component of his self image.
