There is a story, an old one, about an incomplete Princess, one who always needed some help to accomplish her goals: A Prince's kiss to wake her or a fairy god mother to present gifts and blessings.

In an area in the Wyld, protected by an ancient Jade Pillar, a group of Fair Folk played out this story for a time. To be the Broken Princess they chose one of their slaves, a young girl who had forgotten who she was, her mind twisted by the Wyld, though not her form.

Over the years she played the part in the complex game of the Raksha, growing more and more beautiful as the wyld shaped her into an inhumanly beautiful young woman so she would better represent the role.

But in time the Raksha, all but one, tired of her, and decided to play out the Princess' final story, when no one came to help her, to save her. Only the Crying Executioner sought to protect her, so gave her a sword of Glamour, though the Broken Princess did not know why. They took her to the border marches, so she might last longer, and then let her go. Thinking it only another play, the Broken Princess played her part.

When the Hobgoblins and Wyld Mutants attacked she at first simply fled, waiting for her prince to come and save her. As the creature nipped at her heels she realized she was not going to be saved, that she was doomed.

However that thought only made her stop and turn to face her pursuers.

She fought as best she could, until the Glamour sword broken, her hands bled and she spat blood, but she refused to give up, and fought with all her might, refusing to be incomplete. She had finally broken the story she had lived for so long.

The grace of the Unconquered Sun fell upon her and she exalted with the very power of perfection. Her enemy fell to her, scattered and destroyed.

Her captors who had sent her to die applauded.

At that moment she wanted nothing more than to destroy the Raksha who had held her prisoner and made her their toy, but she also knew that she did not have the power. Instead she turned and walked away, vowing the keep the name Broken Princess until such a time when she returned to put the Raksha to death, only excusing the Crying Executioner from that oath.

“I'm as mad as the Wyld Made me, but I would be crazy to stay here.”

She left the Wyld, entering the southern borders of Creation. She traveled at night, though greeted the sun rise like a young bride awaiting her husband. She fought when she had to, and soon the dangerous creatures of the desert learned to be wary of her.

It was in the Desert that she discovered the Unfailing Ring of the Sun, a circular arrangement of ancient, slumbering volcanoes. There she found the Church of the Desert Sun, a powerful Solar Manse, as well as the House of Hot Stone, a less powerful fire manse. In the Church of the Desert Sun, sitting upon the Altar, were War and Love, a matched pair of Plasma Tongue repeaters that sang prayers to the Unconquered Sun when fired. It was not as simple as just taking them, for there were wards and guardians on the pistols, but that did not stop her from acquiring them.

There might have been more to discover there, but she knew that there were thing she must do, so she set off, leaving the wonders of the Unfailing Ring of the Sun for another day.

In the civilized areas of the south the Broken Princess, still not used to the world beyond the Wyld, made mistakes. Some people in the south do not have good memories of her. She may even have some enemies, burned some cities down... It was an accident. Well, several accidents.

As she traveled farther into Creation she saw what a dull place it was, sad, compared to the wonders of the Wyld and the fragmentary visions she had of the first age. It was then she decided she was going to have to do something about it.
