The University of Light

For many centuries, the University of Light stood as the foremost learning place of "acceptable" magic. The status of wizards and sorcerers has always been a tricky one, with most of the Religions of the Book, but for a long time the Students of Light managed to carve a place for themselves as practitioners of good magic, accepted by Allah/God.

The university was already quite diminished when it was destroyed in 1917, during the Great War. The great library burned, and the surviving wizards scattered across the world, saving what they could. Now, the University is a loose affiliation, made up of mages around the world dedicated to the White Arts, keeping in contact as best as they can using their spells and modern technology.

See, this street performer? He's one of them, using what spells he's learned to feed the homeless. See that businessman? He's also one of them, feeding the money he makes into various charities. The University hasn't died, and while membership was down for a long time, it seems that recent events have caused many to awaken to Magic, and for the first time since the University's destruction many Mentors find themselves teaching more than one student. There is Hope at last.
