Verzeg

Verzeg is an enlo of the Srak Arhan Clan, a smallish clan in The Big Rubble associated by blood to most of the bigger clans only distantly. The only major magic in the clan stems from Mistress Srak, a potent shaman and initiate of Kyger Lytor. There are no higher clan religion levels than initiates and prospective initiates must be sent to patron clans for initiation, incurring large costs in gifts to the initiating priests.

Verzeg has no idea who his parents are apart from that they are uzko, and he strongly suspects it is Mistress Zorgenna who had a trollkin birth around when he was born. Mistress Zorgenna seems to have an especial dislike for him, but that may have any reason.

Like nearly all trollkin populations, the trollkin of Srak Arhan have a subculture that is similar to most; the enlo separate themselves into 'gatherers' and 'brawlers', and the brawlers take from the gatherers. All trollkin are born gatherers and the mean, tough and aggressive promote themselves to brawlers. Verzeg likes beetles, is a good beetle-herd and sort of ascended slowly from worker to value. He was taken with a pack of other enlo for initiation when an uzko visited a local clan (of course no uzko would get initiated in the same ceremony as enlo) and he has since worked with the various beetle stock since.

The enlo are filth, slaves and food. They are not fed and are expected to forage for themselves, hoping the brawlers don't see them gorging on anything they find and making them regurgitate it. Even value trollkin descend categories as they age, eventually ending up as food. There is no way out. They expect no less, and cannibalism is known. The uzko couldn't care less.

Verzeg is a beetle-herd who was sent out to enquire why a turnip and ham-beetle shipment did not arrive, and managed to kill the elves responsible and actually save Ogmar, a well thought-of uzko, from some sort of horrid aldryami doom (she was actually being dragged off for ransom, but hey). Part of his adventures in that event was he stumbled onto a hidden shrine of Zorak Zoran, witnessed a ceremony and was given the option of initiation or feeding the shrine and the priest. Verzeg, who particularly hates Zorak uzko and thier violent slaughtering of enlo, joined up in a flash. He's a survivor after all.

The nearest Zorak war leader to Srak Ashan is Grenph Greentusk, a conservative uzko who would enjoy having an initiate enlo the same way he'd enjoy haemorrhoids. On reporting he was given a simple demand; go clear out a hive of chaos or volunteer for the position of skeleton guard. Terrified, Verzeg went back to Srak Ashan and informed his overseer of his duty. While the clan uzko were currently well disposed to Verzeg (and even remembered his name), it seemed a normal response and he was told to bugger off and get killed. Ogmar, however (who had recently lost everyone and had a free trollkin labourer, and so thought well of Verzeg. Trolls are human after all) gifted Verzeg a suit of maille.

His adventures in Scorpion Hall were horrid, violent and in the long run, lucrative in spoil and experience. The Scorpion Hall was confiscated by Mistress Srak (without a bloody word) in defiance in the face of Grenph Greentusk and his Zoraki who claimed it because it was thier initiate who'd captured it under their orders. Everyone seemed to suddenly claim the stupid enlo that had won a troll fort complete with a Kyger Lytor and a Zorak Zoran shrine. As Verzeg squatted amongst the other enlo at the fort he'd won and now was a slave in, one of Ogmar's new trollkin sidled up and told him to see Ogmar. She told him that Greentusk was demanding him and his fort and that his berserks were loitering outside the fort to capture him, and that it was probably being thought of seriously that if he was to die the link to Greentusk's claim would be broken, Ogmar was prepared to look after his hoard (currently stashed in a room in the fort that only he had the key for, found in the ruins in his initial foray) for a fee. And that he should do a runner.

Verzeg, as mentioned above, is a survivor. He'd fought right through the fort and knew it intimately, including the secret tunnel. He was off like lightning.

A bit of background. While in a hospital stay a few months back a mate ran me through the various solo-quests and this is where Verzeg comes from. As such, he has a lot of booty and has done training in stats. With all this booty he'd rather outfit friend trollkin than have them die for want of kit while he hoarded stuff he can't use.

He's fiercely devoted to friends. He also hates the bloody life-long injustice of enlo life and nearly everything about Uz culture (although he has no other experiences to compare them to). The only thing he's ever liked in an uzko was Xiola Umbar, but there was only one initiate in the tribe who healed mainly uzko first and foremost.

While he's technically a 'brawler', he has a huge quirk: he hates anything living in fear. Fear is the natural state of enlo (some enlo die of fright when an uzko laugh suddenly) and anything causing fear in another, like the Fear or Demoralise spells, incur his fury. He can't bear anyone terrifying another species, especially a smaller creature. This is absolutely ridiculous in an enlo, but it's a firm character trait.

Having the haul of a big adventure with him, PCs can be outfitted pretty easily. He doesn't wear the maille for instance, he prefers his beetle-chitin armour (which is where he gets his name). He has buckets of arms, armour and buffs available to other players.
